Whispers of a Magico M9 Coming Soon?

Magico M9 - from what I read elsewhere, almost 9 feet tall and app 1000 lbs. per speaker. Each speaker is divided into two sections, split in two sections for shipping.

Teaser photo. Any guesses on it's configuration?

Interesting. Where did you read this?

That looks like an M6 to me in the camera. No?

My guess is it is an M3 stacked on top of an M6.

This same photo was posted on another forum back in Dec 2019, with various speculation. Including Peter M. reportedly having said to someone it's an M9. Who knows about "rumors" that anyone can post.

If you just Google image search that image, you can find that forum post. I will not link it here.

A 1000 lb speaker is hard to believe with the recent direction the cabinet technology seems to be taking with M2/M6. That would make it heavier than Q7Mk2. Just not practical or sensible to my mind.

I agree, doesn't make sense. With the M2 at 165 lbs, Magico seemed to be going lighter.

Guess we will see in 2021 when this speaker - the M9 - will allegedly be released.

I think one of the reasons the Magico M9’s will be so big and heavy is because you will not need to purchase QSubs for them. Think Von Schweikert Ultra 11’s for example. Built in 15 inch powered subwoofers.

Magico doing a speaker with built-in subwoofer? I find that difficult to believe. But it would explain the weight.

According to FaceBook Magico Speakers page this is the M9. I'm not sure where the poster received it.

Is that the only Magico (except for maybe the largest one) with an external XO and power supply?

Can't wait until the trickle down of the advances in the M9 are seen in some new Magicos that cost a wee-bit less than $750,000

At $750k, they're after a piece of the WAMM Master Chronosonic pie.

Re: Whispers of a Magico M9 Coming Soon?

    A few things.

1.) I assume this is the Q7 replacement as the new flagship? So, only Q series left is the Q sub and Q1?

2.) Is this a 4 tower speaker? With separate bass towers?

3.) Are the bass drivers powered or passive?

Certainly a WAMM or XVX Competitor but, with a hell of a lot more advanced technology. Carbon fiber, pistonic drivers (not paper)

Makes the YG Sonja XV look like quite a bargain at 265K ish ? a pair compared to the Magico and Wilson flagships.

    Yes. New flagship.

    Two towers.

The bottom 2 speakers are 15” powered subwoofers fully adjustable via DSP.

Me too, Calvin. If you look closely at the new design features of the the M9’s, you can see the future of the Magico line for the next couple years, as the new developments trickle down. Gone is the the traditional Rohacell foam, used as the core for the Carbon/Graphene sandwich, replaced with much stiffer aluminum honeycomb core to achieve more pistonic movement. Powered subwoofers that are fully tunable via DSP, which enable the speakers’ bass to be easily tuned to the room dimensions, and to achieve a 94 dB sensitivity, which reduces minimum power requirements and opens up the possibility of many more amplifiers.

I am a Magico fan, but $750K for a speaker is getting a bit over the top in my opinion, don't want to think what it will cost in Europe.

sounds like it's approaching the technology of my 8 year old twin tower Evolution Acoustics MM7's.

    80 inches tall (82" + 84" tall), -2- 15" powered tune-able subs (-4- 15" powered tune-able subs), 1000 pounds (1500 pounds), easy to drive, amp friendly 94db, 4 ohm (97db, 7 ohm).

i think the Magico is sexier to look at by far than the Evolution's. but when the lights are dim.......

    Hi Mike,

The MM7’s are tremendous loudspeakers but I have to give the engineering edge to the M9’s with its carbon nanotube graphene sandwich cones with aluminum honeycomb core and half inch thick carbon fiber monocoque cabinet modeled after the fuselage of a F-35 fighter jet. A stunning engineering achievement in every way. I rapped on the side of the M6’s and it was like hitting a solid piece of polished granite.

    Best,
    Ken

Whispers of a Magico M9 Coming Soon?

The M9’s appear to be state of the art in so many respects. Thankfully we don’t measure the performance of speakers by their height.

Carbon graphene cones with honeycomb aluminum core or a carbon fiber monocoque cabinet.

Can’t wait to see the external crossover and external PSU for the crossover in person. A picture of it is below.

The software for the M9’s bass drivers is all new and an advance on the Q-Sub software.

I’ve also attached a picture of the M9 from the side.

I didn’t realize they had moved to a carbon fiber aluminum honeycomb core sandwich on the cabinet too. A departure from the M6’s design. Alon leaves no stone unturned.

I can't see them selling too many pairs of these into their best market, Hong Kong. It's just too big for the apartments even uber-rich guys live in.

But the trickle down will be tremendous on new forthcoming Magico models at a fraction of the price - which will still be expensive, but not as expensive.

Magico "Halo" Speaker. Similar to that supercar from your car manufacture of choice. And priced like one:-)

Clearly a cost no object speaker to showcase what Magico is capable of.

Many comparisons will be made to the WAMM. Given the price. But, is the M9 a limited speaker, like the WAMM?

Additionally, of course one needs about 100k worth of amplification to drive these speaker.

The WAMM brought us the Relentless amp from Dan D' to pair with the WAMM MC.

Wonder if there is a Soulution Series 9 waiting in the wings to pair with the M9.

the M9 is a tour de force work of art, and it's build quality is breathtaking. as a 'pretty thing' is out-classes the Evolution by leagues. but at $750k to the MM7's $200k you are paying dearly for....exactly....what? nothing that i can see that makes sense.

but performance, who knows? right now i would choose my MM7's. if i ever get the chance to hear M9's then we will see.

i will 100% agree that the hifi world is a better place when companies like Magico make products like the M9 and i celebrate them wholeheartedly.

Imagine the logistical effort to demo M9 at a show. Imagine the effort to convince a dealer to buy a demo pair. Imagine the effort to convince somebody to buy in the absence of demo options. The cross-over box does look very Esoteric-like, or SVS 4000 series subwoofer-like.

A stunning engineering achievement in every way. I rapped on the side of the M6’s and it was like hitting a solid piece of polished granite.

agree and no dispute, on an engineering level no way that the 2000 layers of baltic birch on the MM7 cabinet is as technically sophisticated as the M9's. but other Magico cabinets in the past have also displayed lots of techie highlights, yet did not get the performance lift from those attributes to please a significant segment of listeners.

i've liked but not loved most Magico's i've heard. but i've not heard a Magico in a truly mature system so i cannot say i've heard them at their best.

the M9 might be the perfect speaker.
