Re: Whispers of a Magico M9 Coming Soon?
That would be interesting. There does seem to be a sweetspot for the model 3: A3, S3, Q3, M3. An M5 would be interesting. It very well might depend on what model is least successful against its competition. Powered woofers and a more efficient speaker would certainly open up amplifier options and might well be a great selling point. What I like is the sheer exploration that Magico has done for years, always trying something new and catching watchers by surprise.
I could also see the top half of this M9 being flipped upside down for an M5, tweeter on top. T-M-W-W.Link to my system thread: https://www.whatsbestforum.com/threa...l-sound.32867/

Re: Whispers of a Magico M9 Coming Soon?
Spent the last 30 mins reading the M9 posts on another forum, we won’t mention names, but let me just say, no pun intended, WTF?
Twenty pages of mostly nonsense from self-declared experts, cynicism of the lowest kind, and just pure unmasked hate (400 replies!!).
Like Magico or not, the M9 Tour de force effort is nothing short of impressive, to say the least. WTF is up with these guys??

Re: Whispers of a Magico M9 Coming Soon?
Haven't you figured out how the net functions? Users tend to gravitate to sites where there are other users with common ideas. Sure there are a few sites that promulgate argumentative threads but that is not the norm. It is rather easy to find a sites where Magico is pumped up or dragged under the bus. Same with Wilson, McIntosh, B&W, Bose.......................

It’s the World Boxing Federation. It’s what they do. Some people can’t accept the fact their pockets are only so deep and there are products designed for the very rich. Think Lambos and Yachts as two examples. I have no doubts that Magico will sell M9s to the customers they designed them for.

Re: Whispers of a Magico M9 Coming Soon?
20 pages of who’s ??? Is bigger? Funny, the two biggest commenters DON’T EVEN HAVE A SYSTEM! Rome was built in less time than the one guys home. By the time his system comes together, it will be vintage.
I do miss Amir. He kept them all in line. LOL.
Some are whiners. Funny, I don’t recall those same guys attacking the Wilson’s WAMM? Hmm...wonder why that is?
Congrats to those who can afford the WAMM’s or the M9’s. Ditto for the guy in Sarasota with that gorgeous Ferrari.

Your joking. I am not going to mention any sites by name but I can readily tell the difference in 6 sites I am in some manner familiar with. I only post regularly on two and occasionally a third. Even on the two sites I stay out of a majority of the topics because it would seem any answer I posted could be looked at as trolling.

Re: Whispers of a Magico M9 Coming Soon?
Mike, I like to participate on both forums and for instance posted my listening impressions of the new Pass XP-32 in both places. If you compare the two XP-32 threads, you will find the one over there is quite full of excellent content. With regards to Magico, this site was founded by a Magico dealer while the other one is founded by a guy who has large Wilsons. People don't feel comfortable saying anything negative about specific brands when the owners or industry reps of those brands participate on the same forum. Sure, some of the members there dislike Magico and prefer horns or panels or Wilsons or some other brand. And a few of them can be nasty and very vocal. However, I find the content and depth of some of the non brand discussions to be some of the best such discussions on any audio forum.
Other forums have different climates. This one is quite friendly, especially regarding specific brands represented by Mike. That is fine too. I love coming here to discuss Magico and Pass.
The M9 thread over there does have some Magico owners participating, and the thread is not as contentious as some here would have you believe, IMO. Check out the posts by Ack, Cannata, and a few others. They are just as enthusiastic as the ones here on this thread. I don't think things are quite as polemic as is being suggested here.
References to the guy who doesn't even have a system yet are pretty funny, but in reality, he is in a different hobby. He travels, compares, and posts and listens to live music. The guy with that gorgeous Ferrari actually has two of them. I've seen them and I have heard his Wilson/Pass system a couple of times. With the addition of his new American Sound AS2000 super table, the sound has gone through the stratosphere. He is too busy enjoying his system, those cars, and his new house to participate much on audio forums. Oh, he also has a fantastic collection of LPs and tapes.
With limited information about some new flagship speaker, we spend a lot of time speculating until we run out of things to speculate about. Then we visit other forums in hopes to read something not already discussed elsewhere. Soon, when we have run out of things to discuss about the new product which remains unheard and unseen, the threads devolve into criticism and nonsense and often about things completely unrelated.
I suppose friendly competition and rivalry is a healthy thing. I am reminded of Rodney King's famous phrase.Link to my system thread: https://www.whatsbestforum.com/threa...l-sound.32867/

My comment about the Ferrari was just a reference to someone here in Sarasota I see driving quite often, not someone on any forum. And that guy in Sarasota better be buying Magico or MBL!
We will all have to wait and hear the M9’s when available. If it wasn’t for C19, we would have had a trip for us Audioshark guys scheduled to visit Magico in July or August to hear the M9’s.My Systems: http://www.audioshark.org/showthread...481#post158481

Re: Whispers of a Magico M9 Coming Soon?
Frankly. I think there is bad blood between both AS and WBF Owners/members.
It's been years of observation between not just myself but, others here too and on WBF.
Some are your customers so, you have a financial relationship with them.
However, know that is well documented that you have a financial incentive to push brands you represent.
EMM Labs was analytical years ago but, now that you carry it is is great.
Also banning other dealers on this forum who you compete with.
Mentioning a Magico dealer in the US who gave a bad demo. Who cares if it was a fact, was unprofessional IMHO.
Hostile to owners of a product you don't carry or can't (Spectral).
So, many like myself are can see right through it but, sometimes we don't speak up.
WBF has members that at first might seem pretentious but, I've found the way the community excepting.
The irony is you'd think that WBF would only accept you if you make 7 figures a year, drive a Ferrari and own a pair of 6 figure speakers.
I haven't found that to be the case.

Whispers of a Magico M9 Coming Soon?
Where do you live exactly?
Here are some facts to shed some light on things. Last year, I was asked by Gryphon to post the details of our Abbey Road 50th Anniversary Event at the store on the other forum. I followed their instructions to a tee. The owner deleted the post and banned me. A completely innocent post.
I am obviously going to promote and discuss the brands I represent, I like them because I spend MY MONEY on them. But to your other point, I also am happy to talk about other products I don’t carry but like. D’Agostino ring a bell? Kharma. Many many others.
Regarding Spectral, I don’t recall anything one way or the other. I’ve heard it with Magico at Munich and thought it sounded good. I heard it in other systems and it wasn’t my cup of tea. So not sure what you’re getting at here. You must own Spectral.
Regarding EMM, the new DA2/DV2 is a strong departure sonically from their previous DAC’s, WHICH I HAVE OWNED, have you? I had the DV2 on loan for over a month before pulling the trigger as I wanted to be sure. So what’s the point? Do you run a retail store? You know why I have EMM? Because it’s a stark contrast sonically IMO to MSB. Believe it or not, there have been a few customers who want a different sound and EMM is that different sound.
Dealers who come on here and say, “we just took in another shitty VPI on trade for a fabulous Technics turntable” and do it over and over again after being warned, will get banned. But as you can see, there are many other dealers on this forum.
I started Audioshark long before I was a dealer. I was still running my IT business and had no desire to sell audio at that time.
Regarding that Magico dealer, I voiced my concerns directly to Magico. We all have a responsibility to give the best demos we can. Again, are you in the business?
So you’re free to “speak up”, but so am I, with the facts, jack.My Systems: http://www.audioshark.org/showthread...481#post158481

Re: Whispers of a Magico M9 Coming Soon?
There have been multiple 20 page threads on the WAMM and "trickle down" XVX over there - also Wilson's latest feet have taken a bath. The $400k TechDAS is another. Basically if you want to charge absurd amounts for audio, it's going to create controversy.
The problem is these boxes with drivers cost 2x what a Ferrari 812 does. With probably <$1mm spent on "R&D." It's all BS catered to wealthy Asian audiophiles. The M9 was a "me too" vanity product and i expect a half dozen others to come out in 5 years. It was telling that TAS mentioned the "hot $50k speaker market" awhile back - when the average Stereophile reader's entire system is <$25k. The audiophile world has gone crazy into the $ stratosphere. It's terrible as it shrinks our once blue collar hobby to the .01%, mostly boomer demographic. I've watched it happen for 20+ years now.
I think the A3 is a bigger accomplishment than the M9.Brinkmann Bardo w/ EMT HSD-006 cart, MSB Reference DAC --> Linear Tube Audio MicroZOTL --> Ampzilla 2000, 2nd Edition --> Fyne Audio F1-12

Re: Whispers of a Magico M9 Coming Soon?
That is simply not true, I just spent another 30 min going through some of these Wilson threads you mentioned, it is mainly a ‘choir,’ the only few cynical posts got reprimanded quickly. I think that this forum, although run by a dealer, is more balanced and less egocentric (I do get carried away sometimes ).
I agree prices are insane, but you clearly spent no time considering what went into building these speakers. The reason products like the A3 exist is products like the M9/Q7. Magico A5, which I hear is better than the S/Q 3, is $22K, do you think they could have done that without building the Q5 first ($70K)?

Re: Whispers of a Magico M9 Coming Soon?
I put the M9 into the same category as the M Project from 5-6 years ago. The M Project was to show case a new speaker design, and new speaker technology. When announced Magico limited sales to only 50 speakers. Later releases of M series speakers used M Project technology. I suspect the M9 follows this model. Rather than limit the M9 to only 50 sold, I think it is priced to limit its sales. Later speakers will incorporate M9 technology, but at a more realistic price.
