i am sure that system sounds as good as it is elegant!! ...however, i am thinking a taiko sgm extreme in place of the sonos would really tie the room together, would it not?

S3 Mk2 has become the lost soul in the range, would you say? I mean, A5 would be better in some ways for less money, M2 would be better for not much more money. Is this typical, having a dealer deliver speakers?

Mike (Suncoast Audio) delivered my entire system. If I recall correctly he made three deliveries that day. They ship stuff too, but they do a ton of deliveries. And Mike is a master at setting up Magicos.

Not really, you have to take into account how important colors are for so many people (Alon, nudge nudge, wink, wink!). Black is fine, but really and truly the S series holds a lot of value for many people, not only sonically, but in the ability to choose a color.

Congrats Mike! And, clearly, congrats to the owner of the new Magicos. Very different music reproduction between those speakers. The sealed enclosure of the Magicos probably a better fit in that space.

    Happy listening!

The S3 MkII sounds better overall than the A5, and the M2 is twice the cost of the S3 MkII. It doesn't look like the seating is so far away that you'd need the higher maximum SPL output of the A5.

Most high-end speakers and electronics would be set up by the dealer, unless the client wants to do it themselves.

That is so true. I love my S5s. They sound fantastic, even after a couple of years, and they look great in the living room. Thanks Mike.

Really like the the S3 mkII's, but having listened to the Alexia's I feel the M3's would have been the way to go as replacement.
Did the Wilson's have a bass problem in the room ?

With the position of the speakers being so close to the rear wall I would expect the rear ported Alexias to be boomy in the base. But the Alexia Series 2 in my friend's room here in town are awesome - but he has plenty of room around them and a finished audio room, etc.

Does anyone recognize what type of rack is being used in the photos? I like their looks.

You can order them with the "S" series of Magico's. I normally take my grills off when playing them ....

I seem to recall my S3Mk1's came with grilles as standard. My Q3's didn't, wasn't even an option. My M3's same same. S-Sub came with grilles as standard. ACC the grille was optional, which I should have ordered at the same time but didn't think of it.

Mine do. They are metal, held in place by magnets, so repeatedly attaching and and removing doesn't cause wear problems. I put them on when grandchildren visit.

How did the final setup sound Mike? I can’t see anything giving great results in that room. Good luck selling those erector set Wilsons.

The Magico’s are so nice to work with during setup. We had limitations due to WAF (a hard line of 18 inches out into the room) and had to work with the heat from the fire place on the left side. We also had to ensure the TV wasn’t blocked from any viewing angle from the wrap around sofa.

The final result was very good. I was happy when I left and the customer was delighted - especially that the extreme bass boominess was gone. We had a dead center image which can be a bit tricky with a rack in the middle, TV, but more importantly a wall on one side and none on the other. Off axis was exceptionally good.

We have some work left to do with respect to a streamer, cabling and power, but overall, the customer was MUCH happier. His comments were quite funny, but I don’t want to offend any Wilson owners, so I’ll just keep it to myself.

Yes, wish me luck on that one!

No, no, let’s chalk it up to room and positioning. All good.

    Great Post!

One would not normally consider S3 an update over Alexias, but when you see the room constraints its clearer. Speakers live or die in the room where you put them, and this is a good reminder that the biggest and most expensive speakers are not always the best for you.

That’s one way to look at it.

Precisely! My wife has better ears than me. And she has excellent taste regarding room decor. So we do this hi fi thing together. We compromise on some things; on others it's her way and yet others it's mine. The end result is good harmony both out of the hi fi and among us. I highly recommend it.

We're shopping for a white brick-like material for the fireplace in our new home. That material is interesting. We're looking for a mid-century vibe out of it.

The Magico look great in that room. Never cared for the look of the Wilson anyway.

Especially the Alexia. Worst looking Wilson ever and IMO the worst sounding of the full range Wilson speakers....

    Re: Today’s Magico Install

There’s no way the Alexias (like the look or not) would have sounded right just 18” from the wall; they need at least 30”. A well setup pair of Alexias sound terrific. Now, Magicos are easier to setup and have, in my view, more flexibility in room setup.
