    Re: New Magico S3 - 2023

As far as I understand from forum’s threads, there was a problem with the machine that produced the extruded Aluminium pieces. Leading to delayed supplies of the S3

Is only my guess that then they moved to a new design of the cabinets construction and the new developed drivers were used instead of the old ones, new feet (3 instead of 4) and “voila” you have a new revamped S3…
New higher price and new speaker to move a little further from the very well accepted A5 who has newer drivers and at a lower price point compared to the “older” S3 mk2…
Now the new S3 ( not mentioned so far as mk4) share the new developed drivers and with a better enclosure will be positioned higher than the A series.

I still think and believe my S3 mk2 sounds excellent and no regrets or upgrade thoughts…
    At least for now

As I mentioned, only my guess. But sounds logic to me…

    - Current S3 was the last to receive MK2 version, why is the S3 to be the first for reciving MK3 ?

    - Magico claims that the new S3 measured better than the current S3, why so far we have not seen those measurements?

    - Does Magico understand that replacing model in a cycle of ~ 5 years might hamper their current customers or new customers' loyalty in the long run, what is their plan to address this issue?

The interview is delayed until the new year. Are you a Magico owner?

And I don’t believe Magico shares measurements.

You do realize 5 years is common. See Wilson, B&W, etc. 5 years is a good time, it’s sort of a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation. If things go longer than 5 years, people start squawking for something new. If it’s sooner than 5 years, people say “too soon!”

Address what issue? I'm trying to understand what you are saying. Are you saying 5 years is too short or too long and based on what are you saying that? Thanks - just trying to understand the assumption that there is some sort of "issue" with a company releasing new and improved products.

    Hi Mike,

I’m owner of Magico S3mk2, all ready put my order for the new S3.
My only obstacle was - rosé color not being anymore on Magico color plate.

As for the 5 years policy, S5 and M3 are older than that, personally I would like to see higher gap between model exchange, about 7-8 years sound more owner and environmental friendly to my opinion.

Marketing and profit are not everything if company is to hold long term relationships with customers and in today’s sustainable & environmental needs.

To be short, in my opinion 7-8 years model life cycle is more owner, sustainable and environmental friendly.

S3MK2 was introduced in 2016, I believe. So more like 6 plus years. Regardless, no one is forcing anyone to buy anything. The fact that there is something new does not render what you have obsolete.

Great concept, I am sure the good people at Magico can survive on dry bread crumbs and water (but not too much of it, cause it's also rather expensive)

I believe the S3 MkII was announced late 2016 with first shipments early 2017 (I have two low S/N's).... kinda like the new ones.

December 2016 to be exact, which makes S7, S5MK2, S1MK2 and M3 older then S3 Model.
My guess, the rummer about issues with the supplying the S3 model aluminum body might be true.

Yet models like S5MK2, S7 and M3 are older, I wonder if the rummers behind supply difficulties of S3 aluminum body are not behind this move at this time.

I am happy and intrigued by the new offering. It gives me, an A5 owner, a path for an upgrade without breaking the bank. The S3Mk2 was not a worthwhile upgrade to the A5, IMO.

The new S3s are $45-52K depending on the finish. This hobby is getting crazier and crazier. Although I've spent a good amount on my system, the crazy prices are really making me rethink what I'm spending my money on.

I’d agree the performance jump from A5 to S3 mk2 may not knock your socks off. But S3 mk2 is still a better speaker and at the used price, probably is a better bargain than A5 if one is considering either one. Better looking one too. IMO of course.

I speculate that it won't hit the website until close to initial shipments and that it will be renamed something other than the new or 2023 S3.

    Pretty!

IMO they should rename it as a new line. The cabinet is much deeper than S3 mk1/mk2 and drivers are almost completely different. It also uses tri-pod (as in M series) as opposed to four outriggers of the old S3.

The name “the new S3” isn’t going to work in about 1-2 years when it is no longer “new”.

I'd like to see it with an MCAST bronze front grille, I reckon that would look pretty awesome.

I was told by a dealer that the machine that extruded the one piece S3 aluminum enclosures broke down and could not be repaired. There were probably some units in the pipeline at the time, but I think it's been over two years now.

Yes, I believe quite old ones and personal pair of Alon’s if I’m not mistaken.

    New Magico S3 - 2023

Heard these speakers in a couple of rooms and they were excellent. Great bass. Paired with tubes in each case, and an MSB premier stack, I believe, in the above room.

I think they sound closer to the M line up than Magico would probably want to admit.
