Information on the new S-Sub with two 13" drivers, that is scheduled to start shipping at the fourth quarter of this year:

"The new 13” driver uses a two-layer, 75mm voice coil with 0.6” of linear travel in each direction for powerful, low-distortion bass reproduction. Each driver sports a power rating of 550W RMS, continuous, and even more under peak conditions. It utilizes a super-stiff aluminum cone to yield a perfect balance between stiffness and weight. An advanced motor system results in a super-stabilized magnetic field employing multiple copper shorting rings to stabilize inductance and minimize distortion. To enable extreme linear movement, the driver’s spider has tensile wires woven in."

They've also made improvements to the DSP and internal bracing.

Output: 120dB <1% THD @ 40Hz
Frequency Response: 15Hz—150Hz
Amplifier Power: 3200W on 230V (actual output depends on the electrical supply)
Input impedance: 45k ohms
Dimensions: 31.9”H x 19.25”D x 15.31”W
Weight: 200 pounds

So, greater output from larger, higher-quality drivers and a more powerful amplifier, in an even better enclosure at lower total weight! The dimensions look the same. This is going to be another incredible Magico product. :)

New sub at Munich High End with the new S3s. Terrific presentation by Magico at the show.

Could experienced members advise, which of the two configurations, a single S-Sub or two A-Sub, would be more effective in achieving optimal bass performance in a medium-sized room?

My understanding is everything being equal, multiple subs (in sets of two) in different locations is always being preferable to a single sub.

With the Magico A3's I used two SVS Pro 1000 subs. Setting the cutoff to the SVS is important with any Magico speaker. I was pretty happy with them and how they integrated with the A3's.

With the S3's dialed in and room to breath the SVS added nothing but distraction compared to the S3's bass. Having room for any speaker to perform is always a challenge due to room restraints. My S3's are five feet from the front wall and about two feet to the side walls and just toed in slightly. The bass is very natural for instruments and soundstage. If you don't have the room I'd suggest first playing with the toe-in of the S3's before you bring in anything new. Second, contact your Magico seller. If he knows your room and setup. He's the person that can give the best advise. Good luck!

Hi Darrel,

Thank you for your response.
My initial thought was about room pressurize, as my space is near S3 limits - about 50 square meters. I’m toying with the thought of adding subwoofer to get more room pressure.
