Magico A5 vs others in the same price range

I know that Magico A5 is not out yet but I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on how they might compare to other speakers in the same price range like B&W 802 D3 or Revel Salon2.

I’m also curious as to how they might compare to an older Q5 or the newer M series speakers. I know these are in a completely different price range but I’m wondering if someone has compared A2 and M2 for example.

Based on what Peter from Magico has told me, and he wasn’t just selling, he sincerely was blown away by the A5’s. He said I was very smart to order three pairs to start.

Re: Magico A5 vs others in the same price range

The M2 is much more refined and an all-around better speaker than the A5. The A5 is a significant improvement over the A3, as I wrote about earlier. No question that ignoring price and focusing on sound quality one should pick the M2 over the A5, and the A5 over the A3.

Compared to something like the Revel Salon2, it really depends on what you're looking for. My personal preference is for a Magico speaker, but I know people who would prefer a Revel instead.

Having listened to the Revel Salon2's numerous times and owning a pair of Studio2's I love the Revel sound. While I've listened to various Magico's at my local brick & mortar I've yet to hear the A5's (not sure they have a pair yet), but I will have to do so. As for looks, IMO, the Revel's all day long.......
    Cheers ! …. Dave

Thanks everyone for the feedback so far. I did hear a Magico A3 in the past and I liked the sound but I never did get a chance to listen to any Revel Ultima2 speakers.

What about a large room, would the M2 still be a better choice over the A5? Not that I can really afford the M2

The specs would seem to indicate that the A5 would be preferred over the M2 for a larger room, other aspects being equal (which they won't be).

If you want more SPL output at the lower frequencies, the multiple larger bass drivers and (I believe) higher power handling of the A5 will provide that versus the M2. But when people talk about a large room the question is tacitly about seating distance and boundary interactions / room gain. So your intended setup, and where it falls between an large outdoor field and a small empty bedroom, is part of what goes into the calculus.

In my case it’s a somewhat open living room with an area of about 550 sq ft, 8 ft ceilings and 12 ft seating distance from the speaker. M2 is out of my price range at this time but I’m just curious if I got the A5 right now, would M2 be a good upgrade later or if it’s too small for that area.

Our main listening room is a heavily treated very large room (approximately 33' x 18' x 10') with M2 speakers 11' away from the main listening position. The M2 still benefits from being paired with a subwoofer. In my opinion the A5's would as well, as does the S5 MkII. Regardless the M2 is outstanding in the room I just described.
