And that'll "trickle down" into more modestly priced (for Magico) speakers over the next year or two!?!

Ins't this the new technology that makes its debut in the Magico A5? The new mid-range driver.

Kuoppis, I know you have changed your speakers. I missed the thread sorry. What was it about the Lansche that appealed / how would you describe what is better than the S3 mk2s? Genuinely curious. Please point me to a post if I am covering old ground

Re: Appears there’s something new coming out of Hayward soon

    Hi AJR,

the Lansches have the world’s best tweeter. The Corona Plasma tweeter is really exceptional. Frequency range 1500 Hz - 150 kHz. Nothing else comes even into the same ball park. It is essentially massless, as it consists of an arc of Iight. The highs are ultra fast, super high resolution, and simultaneously very smooth. Nothing like Magico Beryllium tweeters, even though those are also ok.

The rest of the concept also fits my room very well. A fast mid-range to keep up with the Corona, and two 20” active aluminum woofers with 1200 W class D amplification in each speaker. Reaching down to 15 Hz.

The sound is awesome, and not even the largest and best from other manufacturers can match the specs.

    They’re called Lansche 4.2.

So the active class D speakers give your better bass than the S3 mk2s. And it is all still coherent

Coherence is great. I love the detail of the Magico bass, but the Lansches are more meaty without being bloated.

Pretty much, the Lansches are 42K in Europe.

So maybe a couple K’s more expensive.

Interesting. I am thinking of upgrading speakers (next 12 months) and the logical progression is Magico M3s but am also interested in YG Sonjas but given your recommendation I will try to find a dealer to demo the Lansches

Lansches might be difficult to demo outside of Germany. High End is always an option to hear them, but unfortunately that was not an option this year.

If they don’t have semi-active versions like mine, you should try the Lansche own amps to power the low-end.

Bi-amping makes a huge difference. Simple reason being, that the impedance requirements for the woofers and mids + tweeters are very different. Just one amp’s gotta give somewhere.

I've been wondering where on the product cycle Magico might be with the S3 Mk2s. I might be up for upgrading from the A3's, but staying within their size footprint pretty much. If I don't make it to M2s, S3Mk2 is the logical choice. Or maybe within or in 12 mos there will be something new? I'm not the type to always wait for the next thing . . . but I'm not ready now anyway so it's just something to ponder.

I own A3s. I really really enjoy them. They are fantastic. And I'm considering some M3s. IMO, the A3s are like a good glass of wine and I expect the M3s to be like an entire bottle (the M6 like a case and the new M9s[?] like the entire vineyard).

Once my doctors release me, I'm going to have a listen at Mike's. However, at the same time there are a lot of $$$ between an A3 and a M3. And there are a lot of very good speakers in this price range - like Wilson Audio, YG, etc. So, before I spend the $$$ on a set of M3s I desire to be absolutely sure these are the ones I desire.

So, I'm going to enjoy the journey of listening before I make a final decision.

Not that far off, you're right (not including feet):

    A3: 44”H x 11”D x 9.25”W

    S3MkII: 48.2"H x 12"D x 12"W

If A3 is good enough size for you, I’d go M2 over M3. M2 has more similar DNA to M6 than M3 does.

Agreed. M2 = Pound for pounds the best Magico ever IMHO. Unless your room is big, it’s sublime.

    Mike,

Have you tried the M2s with the S-Subs? Seems like they would be a good match, but then one is above the M3 cost.

No. When we went to Magico dealer training a few years ago, we did S3 mk2 with S-Subs. My customer “The Professor” has M2’s with Q-Subs.

    For your room: M3’s.

Mike - so for a medium sized room (like mine) are you recommending M3s over M2s + subs or am I reading this wrong?

Yes, that’s what I meant. Magico always goes latest is the greatest. They don’t shy away from putting in newer technology in a lower speaker in a lineup.

    I have M3 + S-Sub. M3 doesn't really need S-Sub. M2 probably does.

Depends on the room size. I don’t find that to be the case in our 17 x 25. Of course, a sub can always improve things.

Re: Appears there’s something new coming out of Hayward soon

I don't think that any of the M line need a sub. They do an amazing job and have good bass extension.

I also do think that any of them are better with 2 subs added. Maybe not cost effective but then again, very few things are cost effective at this level.

Assuming it is dialed in properly. And the S-Sub isn't the easiest beast to dial in properly.

What I found after setting the level of S-Sub so that it sounded "right", when I then turned off the M3's and left the S-Sub to operate by itself, its sound output was so low it was virtually doing nothing at all. Which is an awfully large investment to do nothing much at all. I'd rather save the floor space needlessly occupied by the S-Sub.

M2s are terrific speakers. Other than the M6, my favorite Magico speakers.

According to FaceBook Magico Speakers page this is the M9. I'm not sure where the poster received it.

Yes, I think close to 1000 lbs.

I'm reposting this on the M9 thread. That's where I should have placed it originally.

I told ya, there’s something new coming out of Hayward.

To me it looks like a Magicolon.

Magico actually shared it in their FB feed.
