I wouldn't say ugly but It doesn't have the refined look of the D-08u for sure with its slightly rounded quality and sensuality... Too bad since my guess is the next c900u preamp will also probably have this more squarish look that is less appealing (to me at least).
Again, not ugly per see but doesn't have that flawless perfect look Luxman usually have.
Also, isn't weird that the tray doesn't open more than that?

Re: New Luxman d-10x sacd/cd-player
Hmmmmm. I’d love to compare the D10x sound to the MSB Discrete dac. I know apples and oranges but I still have a lot of cds that I would not mind playing directly.
Can’t wait for you guys to start getting your players up and running.

Re: New Luxman d-10x sacd/cd-player
According to a guy on the Steve Hoffman site who has both new players (Esoteric 1x and Lux D10) they still retain the same "house sound" as earlier models. Luxman still has the laid back presentation with great detail.

Obviously, the Drive they use/manufacture isn't as custom as it should be for this application. In order to facilitate it hiding inside the body of the player it should also be an inch longer so it could fully extend out. Simply a big oversight and probably a limitation of the internal space as well

I don't think its an oversight, I don't think Luxman oversight anything... I don't think oversight is a word in japanese! :D
Turns out the big Esoteric doesn't completely opens up either...

Re: New Luxman d-10x sacd/cd-player
So... if everybody makes the same mistake or cuts similar corners this is now considered the norm or acceptable? Both of these players should fully expose the disk loading area... the Luxman does not becuase the drawer is mounted deeper within the player, the Esoteric does it because it has a super thick, protruding faceplate. Both should have their trays adapted.

Re: New Luxman d-10x sacd/cd-player
Or maybe they do this to achieve greater overall structural integrity. I agree with Simon; this was not an oversight by either manufacturer.

Lets agree to call it an operational design flaw. There should be no physical obstruction impeding you from placing or removing a disk.

I’m not sure why Luxman did this, but in the D08u the tray just barely comes all the way out for laying a CD in it. It is exceptionally stable. You may desire to write Luxman ...

What a beauty! It does look better than the new D-10x in my opinion...
Regardless of the opening of the tray I am sure it sounds wonderful and so will the new D-10x too!

Luxman said it’s done for rigidity and dust protection, but I’m sure armchair engineers know more than their team.

Re: New Luxman d-10x sacd/cd-player
It looks odd but will be way less prone to damage as the thinner one that comes out further. Since they give you enough room to place and lift the disk, I could get used to it.
-
Re: New Luxman d-10x sacd/cd-player
Yeah, I don’t see it being an issue at all.

Apparently both Luxman and Esoteric are trying to address the same weakness. Given that the transport mechanism is usually the most fragile piece of a player (I speak from experience), I see this aspect of their designs as an advantage rather than a drawback.

Was the Benchmark combo you heard the LA4 (or HPA4) and the AHB2 amp? If so, that is interesting to hear. I was thinking of buying the Luxman m900u to pair with my Benchmark HPA4 but I also would like to get a second DAC and this new Luxman D-10X maybe a better way for me to get TOTL Luxman component into my system.
Does anyone have any information on the Batch mode transfer of bits into the D-10X? Is that only for USB or all digital inputs?
Answer to my question:
"But wait! The USB input has another trick up its sleeve: as well as accommodating USB audio’s usual isochronous data transfer mode, LUXMAN has specified their BulkPET technology that allows USB audio data to be transferred from host to DAC with USB’s Bulk mode (as used by a hard drive or a printer), thus bringing with it error-correction that doesn’t show up in isochronous mode."

Re: New Luxman d-10x sacd/cd-player
Our D10x is broken in now. It’s a winner. More detail than the D-08u, but incredibly musical.

Mike, how does it perform with a server/streamer? Compared with the Esoteric?

It works great as a streamer/server. The Esoteric has amazing separation and detail. The Luxman is rich and musical. I love how the Luxman plays MQA cd’s.

I'm really beginning to hate this thread. It's a SACD/CD player and it's a winner. It's rich and musical. It works great with a streamer/server. Everybody's saying great things about it. Say something BAD besides it's plain looking and the drawer doesn't come out all the way. Tell me something really damning like the reviewer said, "Meh", and didn't buy the review sample.
Last player I bought was the Marantz SA-7S1 back in 2009. I hope I can hold out for more reviews. Grrrrrr....

Resistance is futile. We’ve been using it on demo all week. People have been really loving it and asking lots of questions. It won’t fool you into thinking it’s a turntable like the D-08u could. The D10x has more detail, separation, without any hint of edge or harshness or “bite”.
I think someone would have a hard time vs the K-03XD. If you want a pinch more detail, the K-03XD would be it, but the D-10X is so much more detailed than the D-08u which was my favorite. Would be a really difficult choice. I need to bring the Luxman home to do a better shootout.

Re: New Luxman d-10x sacd/cd-player
I am looking forward to the next top end DAC from Luxman. I already have a Sony SCD-1 SACD player (modified) in a second system that still sounds wonderful and I am not sure I need another disk player. I certainly need a DAC and I am hoping that the DAC components inside the D-10x get put into a DAC only unit.

Re: New Luxman d-10x sacd/cd-player
Very nice review by Steve. The D10X is good looking, well featured and, accordingly, terrific sounding.

Re: New Luxman d-10x sacd/cd-player
For those who already own one of these... can you confirm what material the disk tray is made out of? It appears to either be plastic or stamped steel.

The D-10x drawer is all metal. It might be aluminum. But there is no cheap plastic anywhere.
I’ve had the D-10x at home for the past few days. Let me tell you, it is very special. Very special. Musical as F!

A cool feature of the D-10x is that I plays the MQA layer of MQA cd’s. Previously, the only way to get those files was to rip it. Cool!

Re: New Luxman d-10x sacd/cd-player
Thanks Mike but that doesnt really answer my question. If it is metal, it appears to be a stamped tray, not a machined aluminum one.
I just ordered a DP-750 and holy shit is that thing massive... almost 63lbs. The whole bottom plate of the player is solid machined aluminum... along with the entire cd mechanism, including the tray. Now that thing is a tank. In all honesty the Luxman internals look a little cheap when compared.

On closer look, it looks machined aluminum to me. And the sound is outstanding. So musical.

Does anyone know when the replacements for the lower-priced models will be available?

While I still prefer the look of the D-08u I must admit that this D-10x is growing on me, slowly but surely... Maybe it look stunning in the flesh??
Not that I can afford it or anything but hey... Everyone's a critic after all!

Re: New Luxman d-10x sacd/cd-player
Thanks for the "Unboxing" video.
Well I've been to Croatia (a wonderful place), but certainly not long enough to learn the language. Since more than 80% of Croatians speak English, maybe the only reason he did this Unboxing video in Croatian is, he wants to spare me another bout of "Lux Lust". Yes, I saw an English review follow-up will be posted.
Mike is more than making up for it....

If you read the description below the video, he says he'll be posting an actual review at a later time in both Croatian and English. As much as I love a good unboxing video, I'm more interested in his impressions of it.

Japanese this time around (I think!) :yahoo1:
There is a short shoot out between the D-03x, D-10X and K-03XD starting at 9:42 ... The sound is rather good and clear.
Enjoy!

Small world, I use the exact same clock and LPS for my EtheRegen and soon Mutec!
The D-10x is one tempting SACD player for sure.
