Thread: X1 Power Supply Upgrade

Before I bought my X1 I upgraded my S1 to the X1 power supply, and was glad I did. It was a while ago, and I have forgotten the specific details, but it was a major, positive improvement.

Guys, just be aware that using any non-Lumin Power Supply voids the warranty. The distributor has been very clear about that. One dealer has been pushing this and NOT disclosing it to his customers. So be aware.

Good thread and also looking for further feedback on upgrading the power supply on my U1 to the X1 power supply.

Since the power supply plugs into the X1 then unplug it and return the Lumin with the original power supply.

I think he was referring to modifications on the Lumin units with a built in power supply, not swapping external power supplies.

I tried an X1 power supply on my Lumin A1 and it was a nice improvement. That said, I like the A1 both with and without it but after hearing an X1, I'd recommend putting the funds toward an X1 so great is the upgrade in sound with the newer, more expensive player if your system is up to it.
Perhaps it would be a better value to add the X1 power supply to a U1, though.

The X1 PSU upgrade from Lumin is official, but it only works for U1 / S1 / A1 / T1.

For third party unofficial power supply upgrades that change the internals of other Lumin models (mostly T2 D2 U1MINI), it voids warranty. Please restore the unit to original parts before sending it for repair.

I put the X1 in front of my U1 and had a similar experience. I used to keep extensive listening notes. But I can’t find my notes. But my memory tells me of a similar experience.

The X1 by most of the online research is a home run for Lumin. At the moment, pretty content with the overall system. Coming to an end with my current upgrade itch and looking for more info on minor upgrades. Most Lumin dealers don’t stock just the X1 psu.

Did you mean the X1 psu or the X1 unit itself?

Can the X1 PSU “properly burn in” without being plugged into a unit?

I purchased the X1 PSU some time ago to use with my S1. It definitely made an improvement to the sound. It may be worthwhile for Lumin to sell the X1 without a PSU, so that people, like myself, could upgrade the main unit without currently having to buy a complete system and be left with two X1 PSU's.

Okay got a X1 LPSU coming in. Will update after some time.

I know i know! Just like the lumin site said…not ready yet! (Hopefully can work something out with a dealer)

So yah, crazy me…I added the X1 PSU to the U1 and the inter webs doesnt lie… noise floor dropped, stage seemingly sounds tad wider than before. It takes an edge off the current stock U1 which really was already soooooo good. Caveat emptor - you dont know you have an ‘edge’ on your system till you do these A/B tests. I was quite happy when the U1 finally setting in after 1 month 24x7 playing music.

One thing I noticed, sounds like the snares are a little further behind the singers now. They were before, maybe the effect of it being ‘quieter’ with less of an edge makes it sound further now. But the voices no longer seem to be as forward as they were before…. But still that nice, rich-treble occupying the stage, Lumin sound.

I also went ahead and jumped in heads first on an X1 crazy me Divorce papers next….

Hello, I recently purchased the Lumin U1 and interested in always improving my SQ if it makes sense. I see that you upgraded to the X1 PSU and was wondering if the added cost was worth it.

Hi there. The added X1 PSU to the (big) U1 provided more ‘stability’ to the stage. What I mean by that, all the instruments and space of the stage seem to have gained some height and depth.
As stated, the differences were immediately noticed. From memory it seemed that the U1 loss some immediacy/forwardness which I actually loved from a stock U1. Also, the edge-yness of the instruments were removed IME. You won’t know this till you do a complete A/B.

Whether you’ll like it that’s going to be up to you to try it.

For what its worth, I think the U1 stock is amazing at what it does, I liked it better than the stock U1 mini which is really good too.

I upgraded my Lumin S1 with an X1 power supply, and the sonic improvement was obvious. Later I upgraded the S1 with a X1, and that was another sonic improvement.

I've known of no one replacing the X1 PSU with it.
