I notice that on the X1 and the power supply there is a grounding connection. I assume it is to ground the connections between the X1 and the power supply.
How important is this connection?
And what gauge or wire type (silver/copper) is recommended?

I have my X1 power supply grounded to my Shunyata Triton v3. The X1 itself isn't grounded, but I might do that some day if I am bored. I assume the X1 is grounded to the X1 power supply through the cable. Can't say if the sound has improved with the grounding.

BlueFox,

Thanks for the reply. I never did get a manual per say. So I wonder how Lumin planned this to work?

Please do not connect the X1 PSU ground to the X1 player ground.

Please ignore the ground connector if your AC has an earth wire (and if you're not desiring to use a grounding box.)

There is no hardcopy manual other than a quick start guide.

For more usage instructions, please refer to the articles under Support section of LUMIN - The Audiophile Network Music Player Family

wklie,
Thank you.

So If I was to use a Entreq box then I would use the chassis grounding from the X1/PSU to the Entreq?
BTW, I cannot find the support topic you referred me to.

Old thread, but added Puritan Labs a month ago along with Route Master and City Ground Master. I have been grounding to the X1, but today changed to grounding on X1 power supply. I prefer the power supply grounding. X1 grounding seems flatter and less information for me--I did not notice background singers prior on song testing, but with grounding on power supply not only were they present but imaging and soundstage enhanced over grounding to X1. As always, with your system and your take, results may differ.

further,
Interesting. Presently I have both the grounding lugs from the Lumin X1 & the PS ground going into a Russ Andrews grounding unit.
But I also have the signal ground (rca) grounded to my Entreq grounding box. Sounds pretty good to me.
But, based on your post I guess I will have to try it without the X1 ground lug.

I look forward to your impressions. In my case, the X1 is plugged into the Puritan PSM1512, which is also connected to the Route Master and City Ground Master. This was also the case when I was grounding to X1 instead of the X1 power supply.

further,
So, I disconnected the lead from the Lumin X1 ground lug but kept the ground connection on the X1 power supply to the Russ Andrews unit. I also still have the signal ground from the X1 connected to the Entreq.

And... drum roll... I do think the soundstage became a little deeper.
Thanks further for the suggestion.
