Some help on external hard drive with Lumin A1

    Dear Friends

I need some advice/help to solve a regular problem with my external hard drive (pen drive) connected to my Lumin A1.

It's really frustrating that most of the time my Lumin A1 do not retrieve the data from my 1Tb external hard drive.

This weekend I have decided to do a new test and I connected my external hard drive to my laptop thinhking that Lumin will be able to retrieve it and even though it was well detected from my Lg Oled A1 TV regretfully it was not detected from the Lumin.

I thought that if I left it connected to my laptop and let it running 24/7 then I would be able to enjoy the music from my external hard drive, but unfortunately it was not possible.

Can someone help me with some advice?

What you guys do to have your external drive available all the time for Lumin..?

Thanks in advance for your cooperation, I will be waiting for your responses, and greetings from Buenos Aires.

Whenever you experience a problem with USB drive, or have just unplugged the USB drive from the Lumin, please power cycle the Lumin.

Better yet, please connect the drive to a computer or NAS, and run the free MinimServer there.

One more suggestion: assuming that you decide to connect the drive to a computer or a NAS, you may want to mount the drive to the computer. You can google how to mount a drive to get step by step instructions. Mounting the drive allows you to get faster access to the data in the drive.

Never heard of this before; interesting. Can you pls post your source for this info? Would be useful when copying large amounts of data between USB drives. Thanks.

Re: Some help on external hard drive with Lumin A1

OP: imo Lumin L1 or NAS running Minim may be your best options. Ive not tried direct-inserting a USB drive with music on a Lumin so I dont have experience to comment on that really, but if your experience is inconsistent enough to be annoying, then maybe a different approach.

If you go the Minim on Windows route, youll have to start your computer up every time you want to listen, or keep it running all the time (would be my recommendation), so keep that in mind.

I have never had an issue attaching a hard drive to either a Lumin S1 or an X1. Works fine, and sounds fantastic. Simplicity succeeds, complexity fails.

If you want to try a different USB storage device, please try a USB thumb drive first.

And make sure you do NOT use a USB SSD as some of them can draw too much power.
