Remote control for Lumin?
Hello everyone, yesterday it occurred to me to try my Lumin X1 as a preamplifier, (I have the Accuphase E370) I honestly liked it a lot, the difference is not day and night, but I like to use the latest configuration, which is a bit annoying, is not having a remote control, a common and basic remote control, even if it has 2 buttons, to increase and decrease the volume I would be happy. My question to Peter, is there a chance that Lumin will make a remote control and sell it separately? Thank you very much. Regards.

Re: Remote control for Lumin?
I think the same..
A remote control to turn up and down volumen and also to rew, rev and pause will be really good.!!!
On the other hand i feel that if you are using you Lumin X1 as a Preamp it will be nice to have some Tone Controls on the Lumin app.
Let´s wait Peter responses.

Re: Remote control for Lumin?
There are both technical and business factors associated with this request of remote. Answering one factor without the other would not be very useful.
Tone control is not possible on a Lumin, unless you use use Roon.Peter Lie

Re: Remote control for Lumin?
The remote is the iPhone or iPad. Super easy to run the Lumin players with either. Of course no tone controls but that’s ok.

Re: Remote control for Lumin?
Perhaps Peter’s reference to “business factors” means there is a Lumin preamp in the works. It makes sense, given they already produce source components and an amplifier. This is all just speculation on my part, so take it at that.

I totally understand the need for a hardware remote. Whether this will be offered is a business decision above my pay grade.

Re: Remote control for Lumin?
Ill throw my vote in for a remote as well. I never imagined one was needed with the way the app works... until I purchased the Electrocompaniet ECM1 digital player which is controlled by its own APP and a physical remote control. I use the APP to browse and create a playlist and then simply use the remote to jump forward and back in the queue... much faster and easier to use. Volume control would also go nicely with this.

Re: Remote control for Lumin?
What would a Lumin remote do? There is no volume to change. There is no channel to change. Other than increasing the cost and complexity, what would it accomplish?

Re: Remote control for Lumin?
Curious how you think Lumin can retrofit a remote control to a unit with no IR sensor built in to the case? My Aries G1 has the sensor built in at the time of assembly then it is up to you to decide if you want to purchase one or not.

Re: Remote control for Lumin?
Haven't bought a D2 or U1 mini yet, but reading this with interest. I guess a separate dedicated phone to control the app won't make much difference. And an apple remote won't work with iPad controlling the app ?
PS I'm not tech savvy at all

Re: Remote control for Lumin?
So then you need a WiFi enabled remote control that can gain access to your network.

Re: Remote control for Lumin?
The physical Apple remote uses IR and requires pairing with an IR-receiving device like an Apple TV or Apple desktop computer. It won't control the Music app or the Now Playing widget on an iPad.
The iOS/iPadOS app called "Remote" (published by Apple) can control a network Apple music/video source like iTunes on a computer or an Apple TV, but that's pretty similar to how the existing Lumin app works anyway.Neko Audio

Re: Remote control for Lumin?
Peter
How about just making the volume control appear at the home page of the Lumin app? Short of having a physical remote, it would be easier to control volume without having to open settings and option and scroll.... What do you think?

Re: Remote control for Lumin?
The problem is that you have to actually read the provided documentation to fully operate a new piece of gear instead of just plugging it in and then complaining on a forum about the operation of the piece. Doing it before you even buy the piece and then again before the box arrives would be a novel idea.

Re: Remote control for Lumin?
Why have you guys bought a device without a remote? For me, any preamp or unit that includes a volume control facility must have 2 things - an old-fashioned IR remote and and even more old-fashioned volume knob on its front panel. If either absent - boycott it. There's plenty of manufacturers out there that do include these essential things - give them your custom! Peter
