Problem With App on New iPhone 15

I recently upgraded my iPhone to iPhone 15 running ios 17.0.3. The Lumin app will no longer find my Lumin U2. On an iPad the Lumin app (previously installed) recognizes and controls the U2. I tried a variety of troubleshooting fixes for the iPhone:

    U2 off and on
    U2 unplugged
Router, server,U2 and app powered down and rebooted in that order allowing for full loading
Lumin app deleted off the iPhone and reloaded

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

The current iOS version is 17.2.1 and provides important bug fixes and is recommended for all users.

Apple security releases - Apple Support

I'm using the Lumin app version 9.1.2 for the U2 right now with my iPhone using OS 17.2.1 and not having any problems at all.

Thanks updated to iOS 17.2.1 and the Lumin app is 9.1.2 and still doesn't work for the phone even though it works for the iPad.

Make sure the phone is on WiFi, not 4G.

Also, grant "Local Network" permission to Lumin app on iPhone in iOS Settings -> Privacy.

    Peter,

Phone is on WiFi and local network permission is granted to Lumin app. Still no luck.

The app loads and I go to setup and there is no U2 shown and hence no further activity.

It worked fine up until I got the new iPhone. Apple says they have no idea.

could try, if not already done so: iphone settings/general/iphone transfer or reset>reset>reset network settings. Will have to renter your wifi pasword, or any network passwords.

    iphone 17.2.1 here

Re: Problem With App on New iPhone 15

I have some new information on the problem.

As I indicated in earlier messages the Lumin app works fine on an iPad in the same house so the problem is not router nor switches. However the iPad originally used to set up the U2 belongs to my partner who lives with me. I was able to set up my old iPhone and control the U2 with the app just fine. Last nightI tried to set up the Lumin app on my partner's iPhone and it worked. On my phone it still did not. It thus appears that somehow in the transition to my new iPhone through the iCloud that I am no longer recognized on my iPhone. We share one iPad and each have our own phone. We do Apple Family Sharing but that doesn't seem to be relevant for individual apps.

iOS 17 has been buggy. A recent beta of 17.3 bricked phones leading apple to pull it. The update to that beta came out on Tuesday and is causing all sorts of Bluetooth issues on my iPhone 14 max pro.

Apple's software quality seems to be faltering as of late.

Re: Problem With App on New iPhone 15

Do you have to set your router to allow new devices on your network?

I had an issue with my iPhone and Netgear Orbi router which I have set to not allow non-approved devices to connect to my network.

Some software updates on the iphone changed the MAC address of the iPhone (labelled as Wi-Fi address in the wifi settings) which caused it not to connect to the router.

I had to approve this new and updated address on the phone before I could connect.

This is why I personally don't use beta releases. The reason they may still be in "beta" is because they may be likely to have bugs or failure modes.

From your description, it appears to be an iOS failure mode rather than a Lumin app problem.

If working prior to phone update and not after phone update it would be the phone update?

    Some more variety:

Reboot iPhone if not already done
Turn wifi signal off and back on
Turn off 3G/4G/5G to make sure you're solely on wifi and try closing and reopening Lumin app
Try another open home player app e.g. Linn Kazoo and see if that finds Lumin player.

One way to likely fix it if your comfortable with it is to turn of the U2 completely not just standby. Go into your router settings and delete the Lumin entry. Then power down both phones and the iPad. Turn the U2 back on and let your router assign it a new IP address. Then when you power up your phones and iPad they should find it at the new assigned address.

Re: Problem With App on New iPhone 15

My coworkers have iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. All Lumin app 9.x versions have run fine on those phones with all relevant 17.x versions of iOS.

    Latest test:
iPhone 15 Pro iOS 17.2.1 - Lumin app 9.1.3: OK
iPhone 15 Pro Max iOS 17.2.1 - Lumin app 9.1.3: OK

Re: Problem With App on New iPhone 15

On my 14Max I' still on 17.2.1, Lumin app 9.1.3 and everything works great
My wife's 15 Pro is also now on 17.2.1, Lumin app 9.1.3 and everything works.

MY wifes 15 Pro was on 17.3.1 had some issues, like getting stuck in a boot loop ( bricked). Had to take her phone to the Apple Store to get it back to 17.2.1 ( they had to do this, which is noted on a few support sites. The fix runs like this:

Download the previous iOS 17.3 beta, that’s iOS 17.3 beta 1 IPSW on to your Mac. Plug your iPhone in to the Mac, then snap your iPhone into recovery mode: press volume up, then volume down, then press and hold the side button. Release it when you see the recovery mode screen. From here you can restore to the earlier IPSW.) What a freaking pain as we had to drive to Jacksonville. Apples used to have some decent software now its at times buggy. Stay away from beta's, unless you have a Mac for recovery.

Exactly right, CPP, good advice. I’ve worked with a number of really good software and firmware engineers writing code for the DNA sequencers and genetic analyzers we made when I worked in Biotech here in the Bay Area. And, there are reasons “interim” software that is still under development (e.g., IOS 17.3.x, etc.) is classified as “beta”. Here’s a fact for folks’ consideration: ALL software that is in Alpha or Beta is prone to having bugs. That’s why it is classified as being in Alpha or Beta.

So, respectfully, why use beta iOS releases, when by definition, they still may (and likely do, that’s why they’re in…you know, beta) have bugs? What problem is actually being solved by using them?

No one here using “formal” iOS releases (non-beta iOS releases) has reported having any problems using the current rev Lumin app, 9.1.3
