Lumin X1 and external Hard Drive

    I now own a Lumin X1 streamer/dac.
I have a 8TB Hard Drive connected to it. The Lumin is set to go to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity.
But, though the Lumin appears to go to sleep the external hard drive continues to blink.

Does this mean the hard drive never goes to sleep? Or should I manually shut down the hard drive when not is use?

Re: Lumin X1 and external Hard Drive

I find the same is happening with my T2.
I have an external hard drive connected and after 15 mins my T2 goes into standby, but the light in n the external hard drive stays lit.
I was told that if I turn the T2 off using the app or leave the T2 turn itself off its the same.
I don't think this is the case as the light is still on on the external hard drive when allowing the T2 to go into standby.

If you're using a HDD (usually 3.5") that has its own power supply, it'll probably not spin down.

If you're using a 2.5" HDD, please try a manual standby operation in the Lumin app.

Peter - I apologize if this has been asked before but which type of HDD is preferred for use with a Lumin, a portable or one with an external PS? TIA!

One with an external PSU. I would also love to see an SSD version of the L1. Now that would be the ticket!

I'm not sure what you mean it is a Western Digital 8TB hard drive. Should I unplug the hard drive after use?

Re: Lumin X1 and external Hard Drive

Between my Lumin S1 and Lumin X1 I must be getting close to five years with Lumin. Both pieces of gear have a direct attached 3.5" hard drive, and the drives have never been powered off.

Now that I think of it, neither have the Lumins. When I am done for the night I pause the playing song, and come back to it a day, or days, later.

Western Digital sells both bare drives as well as storage products. The latter come with their own AC adapter that you plug directly into the wall socket. I am guessing you have the latter, which means it falls into the first category Peter is talking about (independent of hard disk size being 3.5" or 2.5"). But the reason for "probably" is because whether or not the drive spins down depends upon the disk controller.
