My understanding is that black U1 needs to be special ordered.
yes this is true.. Silver brush metal like the Chord range is in, black is not.
Silver, black silver, black, gold, black, sliver....all a period trend. 70's silver is currently in. Not surprisingly a driver for current vintage hunts because believe it or not there are vintage silver beauties that are getting classic collectible credit.
Manufacturers must appreciate that black remains the predominate facia since the late 80s.

I received my U1 yesterday. I plugged it in and presto - it works flawlessly. I love Lumin's simplicity.

I'm using it with the Berkeley Alpha Reference DAC. Sounding great after 24 hours of straight break-in.
