    Lumin T2 Discontinued?

At Axpona one of the Lumin dealers said that the T2 was being discontinued at the end of the month. Is that accurate and, if so, what is replacing it?

I read somewhere it will be replaced with a T3, but do not have any details on any improvements.

Probably will get the new processor mentioned in the U2 Mini promotional materials.

I am going to be getting an Anthem AVM 90 processor. I am planning on using its DAC and connecting via coaxial. Would I be better off selling my T2 and buying the U2 Mini since it has a newer processor?

I think you want to use that AV processor for it's room correction but you got only optical or coax input. The output on those for the Lumin U2 is "PCM 44.1kHz–192kHz, 16–24-bit" and "DSD64 (DoP64, DSD over PCM)".

The main benefit of the new U2 is the USB output "PCM 44.1–768kHz, 16–32-bit, Stereo" and "Native DSD512 support" and faster up- or downsampling.

I got a U1 mini and i tried the upsampling. The outcome was not good. Native red book 44.1, 16 bit output is better. My experience is that the input of a DAC has a bigger effect than the source material of the music (if it isn't below red book). I even downsampled some 192 kHz albums to 96 kHz because the BNC input was better than USB input of one of my DACs.

You can stick to your T2 (with Dual ES9028PRO SABRE). Maybe this sounds better than your AV processor. You can change to a U1 mini or U1 or the U2 if the AV processor sounds better.

Ok thanks. I guess I will keep the T2 for now. I thought it would be better to go to coaxial connection as I want to use ARC and my subs.

    Re: Lumin T2 Discontinued?

I only use the T2 to stream Qobuz and my CD's that have been converted to FLAC on a network hard drive. I don't use the Lumin for anything else. It is now connected to my AVR with analog cables but as I am getting a AVM 90 processor I know I will be connecting with Coaxial as I want to use ARC and also my subs. I don't know anything about connecting via USB. Would that be better than coaxial? Seems that the U2 would be a better fit for me since it has the new processor. Is that correct? Thanks

I have not heard the AVM 90, but I would think the Lumin T2 DAC would sound better for 2 channel. However, I am guessing you are needing the AVM 90 for home theatre and room correction applications as well?

Yes the AVM 90 will be for 2 channel and home theater. I am planning on using the DAC of the 90 with the Lumin for 2 channel

I think I would connect via USB. I also have the T2 and tried a USB connection to my Classe SSP, which also has a nice DAC. I found the analog out and bypassing the Classe’s DAC sounded the best to me. But I have not heard the Yamaha DAC, so YMMV. Let me know your findings..
