    Lumin and mesh routers

My audio system is on the second floor without a hard wired internet connection. I would like a Lumin streamer but I know it requires an Ethernet connection vs. Wi-Fi. Has anyone used a mesh router with the Lumin streamer? If so, any problems with connectivity or degradation in sound quality relative to a hard wired Ethernet connection back to the "home base" router. Thanks.

i heard no difference in sound when using my Lumin running off a mesh router vs. Ethernet.

    Re: Lumin and mesh routers

I've been doing it for over four years with multiple brands of streamer including Lumin with no issues or sound difference. Main issue will be whether or not your upstairs in room mesh unit gets a strong enough signal from the base unit. If so then there shouldn't be a problem.

    Re: Lumin and mesh routers

Beware that if you add an additional router (that cannot be turned into bridge mode, e.g. multiple Google Wifi) instead of replacing your main router, it won't work.

In the worst case, some ISP lend users a modem that is also a router, which can neither be replaced nor configured. In this case, buying a WiFi router (that cannot be turned into bridge mode) instead of a WiFi access point will be very problematic.

Thanks for the replies. I have a separate Comcast modem and am using a Netgear Nighthawk as my prime router.

    Re: Lumin and mesh routers

Just try one of the Netgear WiFi extenders from Amazon and if it doesn't work send it back. It's going to depend on the signal strength you get now in that room.

    Peter,

I actually have been using the Google mesh (with multiple units) with my T2. Glad to report for over a year now and no problems.

    Re: Lumin and mesh routers

When I purchased my D2 from Upscale Audio, on their Lumin D2 page I noticed an Amazon link for a TP-Link wireless access point, which would receive the wi-fi signal from your router, then feed the Lumin with an ethernet cable.

Maybe someone has experience with this setup and can comment.

    Re: Lumin and mesh routers

I've own and have used two different TP Link extenders and as long as they get a strong enough signal from the main router they will do the job.

    Re: Lumin and mesh routers

I have used a TP-Link Wireless access point to connect several different streamers over the years and had no issues. My music room and my home office don't have ethernet connectivity. Many of the devices I have used didn't have wireless capabilities so I have used several WiFi to Ethernet converters and have always had good results, even with DSD files.

I currently use a Netgear Orbi router connected to my FIOS router, and an Orbi satellite in my music room. The advantage of using the Obri mesh network is the satellite has four ethernet ports so I can connect my TV, streamers and other equipment to my WiFi network and not worry about bandwidth issues.

It took me some time to get my Orbi mesh network functioning properly but it is now rock solid since I inserted a un-managed switch between the Orbi router and each of the satellites. It didn't work proper;ly connecting to the Orbi ports directly.

For instance my whole house system needs a wired connection to get Roon. There is a Orbi satellite in the cabinet near my Roon endpoint. Orbi sends the signal wireless to the satellite. I have a 1m Ethernet cable connected to an unmanaged switch. Also connected to that switch is a 1m of Ethernet that connects a Roon endpoint (in your case it would be the Lumin unit). The analog output of the endpoint feeds the integrated that powers the 10 rooms in my whole house set-up.
