Re: Lumin, Leedh’ing the way
You can either use the volume control from within the Lumin iOS/Android app or get the optional Lumin IR control package.

Re: Lumin, Leedh’ing the way
Thanks for replying. I'm not clear about how would an IR remote work with a transport only component like the U1? Would the Leedh still be functional with the use of such a remote? I'm looking at the U1 connected to a dac with Leedh on in the app. Would an IR remote be applicable in such a setting? Thanks.

Re: Lumin, Leedh’ing the way
Yes.
The (separately purchased) Lumin IR remote package has a USB receiver to be plugged into the Lumin transport or player.
On receiving a volume command from IR remote / Lumin app / Roon / Tidal app / Spotify app / AirPlay / UPnP app, the Lumin transport or player applies Leedh Processing Volume. If it is a transport for digital output, the volume is done digitally and the output bitstream reflects that. This volume-adjusted bitstream is sent to the DAC.Peter Lie

Re: Lumin, Leedh’ing the way
Currently using the Leedh Vol control of Lumin going straight into the DAC of Hegel H90 in home theater mode (@unity gain). More vibrant than the amp's vol control! Well done & well implemented dear Lumin!

By the way, on Roon forum there are multiple Hegel users with Lumin T2.

Re: Lumin, Leedh’ing the way
Hi
I just purchased X1 with remote control, It’s on the way.
Can I use X1 directly into my power amp which has relatively ( compared to Lumin AMP) low input impedance of 30K ohms.?
But it has reasonably good gain of 28db.
Here are the specs of my amp
KA S180Mk2
Fully balanced dual mono power amplifier. 2x180W (8 Ohm) in class A
Channel separated power supplies from a 680 VA toroidal transformer, 80.000 micro Farad filter bank and four stages of stabilisation
Frequency response DC – 300kHz +0, -3 dB
Signal to noise ratio better than -112 dB
Intermodulation distorsion less than 0,03% at rated power into 8 Ohms
Gain is 28 dB
Pink noise min RMS Power 180/300W into 8/4 Ohms (not recomended for loads under 3 Ohms)
Input impedance 30 kilo Ohm
And my speakers are 8ohm 91db efficiency.

Re: Lumin, Leedh’ing the way
From Lumin + Leedh Digital Volume control - Digital Sources, DACs, and Computer Audio - StereoNET International
I have a PS Audio BHK Signature preamp which I thought just “wasn’t right”. I placed it on Unity Volume (77) and turn on Leedh Volume on my U1 Mini. The change was so much more significant than I would have thought! When I tried initially running my DAC directly to the power amp, it sounded thin. Now it’s running through a proper preamp with all its input gains and transformers, the sound is full, voices clear and trebles have lost the brittleness. WOW!Peter Lie

Re: Lumin, Leedh’ing the way
I have a MasterSound Spettro preamp. How do I locate the unity gain volume? Thanks.

Re: Lumin, Leedh’ing the way
If unity gain is not specified in the preamp manual, please turn up the preamp volume, and turn down the Lumin Leedh volume. However, if you also use the preamp for other sources, then you must turn down the preamp volume before you switch to other sources, otherwise there would be a risk.

Re: Lumin, Leedh’ing the way
For roughly 18 months, I've had my Lumin T2 connected to my McIntosh C2600 preamp via XLR, which was then connected to my McIntosh MC275 amp via XLR. Both have had a small amount of tube rolling to taste.
I was 100% happy and content with the sound I was getting. Thrilled actually.
Over our recent holiday break I experimented a bit...
I pulled the C2600 out, and now have my T2 directly connected to my McIntosh MC275 via XLR.
I turned on the Leedh feature, fiddled a bit with the Max Volume setting (a nice feature all by itself, BTW), and the Lumin app volume control (the Circle).
I tried very hard to have zero expectations; trying to avoid confirmation bias... if anything I was probably looking to justify my preamp's existence.
Going without the preamp resulted in more detail, cleaner highs without affecting the bottom end or the mids. Lifting of the proverbial veil. The difference is astounding, and was immediately evident. I'm literally flabbergasted by the difference.
Adjusting volume via the app is a bit klutzy as I don't always use the Lumin app (Thankyou Tidal Connect).
My Lumin remote kit is on order. The C2600 will likely be for sale as the T2 is my only source.
I'm a little late to this party, but props to the folks from Lumin.
Editorial Feature Request: Quboz Connect, then I can discontinue Tidal and their MQA nonsense.

Re: Leedh Processing Volume free upgrade
One question:
I am using Roon with lumin X1. If volume control in Roon is activated (with Leedh activated as well in lumin app), does that mean the volume control in roon using Leedh algorithm?

Re: Lumin, Leedh’ing the way
Yes, the Lumin volume in Roon is done using Leedh processing. In the next firmware you'd actually see "Leedh" in the Roon signal path.

Thanks for the clarification. I need to bypass preamp as there is issue with it.
I must say the Leedh is very good!

Re: Lumin, Leedh’ing the way
Lumin Firmware 15 added analog output balance control to our models with ESS DAC chips (X1 P1 T2 S1). To the best of my knowledge, we are the first manufacturer that makes of use Leedh Processing Volume to provide balance control.

Upgraded the iOS app. L/R balance controls are there. X1 just went up a notch on creature comfort capabilities. Thanks Lumin team!

So the balance control is only available on units with ESS DAC's?
Not available on units like the U2 mini even though they have Leedh volume processing capability? My System:

Re: Lumin, Leedh’ing the way
After reading a bit on the LEEHD feature I decided to try running my D2 (balanced) directly into my Benchmark AHB2 amp. Although I'm only a couple album listens in, it sounds very promising. I just want to clarify my settings as the best way to use it. In settings on the app, I have the volume at 100%, and use the red circle to adjust volume while listening. The indicator in the red circle is anywhere from 45 to 65, depending on how hot the recording is. Is this the optimum way to use it? Thanks.

Re: Lumin, Leedh’ing the way
It's completely up to you.
You could also set the max volume to 65 (or 70 to give you a little headroom) and then use the circle to go up to 100%. This gives you slightly more granularity of control.
The sound quality is the same either way, but this way limits the volume to protect your speakers and then gives you 1-100% control up to that limit.
(The main volume control will still allow 100 positions of adjustment, but now the actual volume = main volume × Max Volume %. For example: if the Main Volume is 80, but the Max Volume % is 70, then the actual volume is 80 × 70% = 56.)[Associated with LUMIN]

Re: Lumin, Leedh’ing the way
Peter,
I recently purchased the Lumin remote for my T2. I find the volume up down on the remote very slow. Is there any way to change this?
A few suggestions for updates- Make the volume NUMBER display as large as possible on the Lumin screen. It is almost impossible to read the numbers from a 9-10 foot seating position. Maybe make the numbers as large as the VOL or just delete VOL since everyone knows what the numbers mean and just use the largest numbers possible. Also, if allowable make volume show up on the Lumin display when controlling via Roon or Tidal apps not just the Lumin remote.

Re: Lumin, Leedh’ing the way
The remote volume button repeat rate is tuned in a way so that it'd be safe. We don't want the button being held accidentally to quickly cause potential harm to the speakers.

Re: Lumin, Leedh’ing the way
After a couple weeks listening to the D2 straight into the amp, I'm convinced the volume control is transparent to the music. Yesterday I hooked the D2 back into my preamp and can't hear any difference. Using the remote on the pre is a tad more convenient, but not sure I couldn't get used to the control via ipad.
