    Lumin Firmware 14

In case anyone hears a SQ difference after upgrading from 13.x to 14.0, please report and state the model.

Firmware 14 actually also has the following important changes not listed in the web release notes, applicable to all models:

    - Improve network bandwidth usage for gapless playback

    - Improve processing efficiency

These could impact SQ, however small the difference is.

Peter i will be the first to risk my head here. After i upgraded ( X1 ) i sat and listened to music Vanessa Fernandez and i was , waouu this sounds better than before well it can be due to many factors but i feel the highs are better also how i hear the soundstage has improved with even more details. Thats what i was hearing but. So i do hope i am not the only one which noticed these things. I can say that i am very happy listening to Miles Davis Live at Vienne Jazz Festival 1991 , which i also thinks sounds better than before.

I never listened to 14.0, other than to verify it worked. I just installed 14a, and being Friday, I will listen to it for the next 6+ hours. My initial reaction is that it does sound a bit clearer and more defined.

    Re: Lumin Firmware 14

Peter, since installing 14.0a a couple of days ago, certain internet radio stations will not play via the Lumin App. Most will play, but some don't. They all play through Roon's Live Radio function and directly through Tune In. I tried deleting the problem stations from my Tune In favorites, updating my internet radio station settings in the Lumin App, then adding them back in to my Tune In favorites and again updating my Lumin internet radio station list, to no avail.

Many of the problematic stations are SomaFM streams (e.g., Deep Space One, Synphaera, and n5MD), but others are also affected, such as WKCR. Please check to see if this is in fact an issue with the latest firmware. Thanks.

    I have the Lumin X1

The stations in question appear as icons in the list of internet radio stations in the Lumin App. When I touch the icon for one of the problematic stations on my iPad with my finger, that icon then appears in the upper left corner of the screen like normal. Sometimes the image of the program and the streaming data even appear, but the spinning wheel appears for awhile, then the spinning wheel disappears, and no sound comes from the system. Most stations play normally, as I mentioned.

P.S.: The problematic stations play fine via the Lumin Streaming function, streamed from my iPad. They just don't play through the built-in Internet Radio function of the Lumin App.

I feel that on my X1, it sounded as if the music/pace seemed faster. No way to prove this, however maybe a result of it rebooting? Who knows.

Listening on night two of the 14a upgrade, and my initial reaction is the same; a bit clearer and more defined. I wish Peter hadn’t mentioned there might be a sound difference with this release, because otherwise I would be wondering if my hearing slightly improved.

On my X1 I believe the sound quality has improved. There seems to be a more real sound. That is; larger, deeper soundstage. And yes there is more detail. It is subtle but noticeable. (Even before I read this thread).

I am just rolling in from fw 14a, SQ is excellent already and I couldn't compare it to earlier fw versions.

Talking about firmware, is there a list of improvements pending? And is input for future increments desired/appreciated?

    Re: Lumin Firmware 14

My top 3 suggestions for future features:

    1. Lumin player, possible to scroll a longer filename so that you can see how and what on the screen. Switchable to On and Off in the unit settings.

    2. Lumin player, possible to remove the 2000 item limit in the playlist and expand it to more?

    3. Lumin App, upon hold+press a folder in the audio library, do not add the files from only the folder that is hold+pressed but also add the subfolders thereunder, this helps fast creation of a playlist if your files are organized well

    Re: Lumin Firmware 14

Considering that everyday more and more people are using Lumin as an unique Preamp in their systems my humble suggestions is to evaluate the possibility to include some "Tone Controls" or maybe an "Equalizer" in the app enabling us to correct problems in our listening rooms or maybe to adjust sound to our best preferences.

I know that some of this actions can be done through Roon but for the rest of people who do not use Roon it will be a nice upgrade i think.

    Thanks in advance Peter.

as i stated earlier, Spotify web api is public and open to any registered developer.
as an oem, i'm assuming Lumin has even greater access, but you are saying No?
on second thought, i'd rather use Spotify app anyway.
    thank you for the clarification...

I don't think the web API does what you think it will allow us to do what you asked for.

If you can find one API that retrieves the track music data, not metadata, not simply launching the Spotify app (which does not run on Lumin hardware - we run Spotify Connect SDK) let me know. On an embedded system where there is no browser, no Spotify app, you cannot play anything without Spotify music data.

there is no confusion between web api and connect api, two different animals.
as a Lumin user, what i asked for is similar support for Spotify as you provide for Tidal,
an ability to browse through my library. obviously, this applies strictly to the app, not firmware.

Non-Connect Spotify is not authorized and is technically impossible now. Lumin playlist (once setup) is in the player hardware, retrieved and played completely by itself. You can have the smartphone or iPad powered off without affecting the playlist playback from internet or local NAS.

    Re: Lumin Firmware 14

In fw14.1 the Lumin app (iPhone) seems to think Minimserver is offline while it is not. So I now play via disk station share. Double tapping Lumin app, swiping it away to close it and reopening the app does not resolve. Anyone else have this?

Any thoughts also on how to add also SUBfolders when pressing and holding a folder for playback?
e.g. Audioshare\Folder1\100 subfolders with each 20 audiofiles. If you currently press+hold Folder1 you would still end up with an empty playlist.

    No problems here with Minimserver.

e.g. Audioshare\Folder1\100 subfolders with each 20 audiofiles. If you currently press+hold Folder1 you would still end up with an empty playlist.
This is not supported. See if other OpenHome or UPnP control apps do, or even JRiver or Audirvana.

We use a tag model, so usually you tap and hold the album art to add an album to the playlist.

I see. I do browsing by folder and now add one by one -also to be Abe to hierarchically go above the tag system-. I know of the past that e.g. sonos could do this since forever. I just love navigating. Could it be made possible for a future fw ?

edit1: I’m thinking that the Lumin app currently already does an index of the integral folder structure. i can imagine if subfolders would be seen as part of their parent folder then it would work out.
edit2: meanwhile I keep enjoying the current capabilities.

    Re: Lumin Firmware 14

After a few semi-casual sessions with music that I am very familiar with, I hear an improvement in the overall sound. To me, there seems to be less background noise, which makes instruments and vocals sound cleaner and more separated.

Tracks played at the usual volume levels don’t sound as loud as before (not sure if this is due to the perceived darker background or if something else accounts for this).

Bass seems a bit tighter, and I notice a very distinct improvement in the sound of cymbals.

More critical listening ahead, including playing some “problem tracks” and also comparing the sound of the T2 with firmware 14.1 to CD’s played on the Wadia, but so far I REALLY like what I hear.

Summing it up, this is yet another substantial FREE performance upgrade from Lumin. Bravo!
