Lumin App Request

Just upgraded to a D2 from Node 2i - paired with Exposure amp and Linn speakers. Significant step up. I have more than 4000 albums on a NAS. Using Bluos, I could create a playlist from the Library and just shuffle - really liked be surprised by songs I hadn't heard for a while. Seems like Lumin playlist app is limited to 2000 songs. Is there any way around this? If not I guess this is a request .....
+1

Note:
I had the same comment earlier when I upgraded a Lumin player. On this forum though it is mentioned that the 2000 songs limit is 1) due to the OpenHome compatibility and 2) it would take a long time to reload the library in the Lumin App.

For me I'd also suggest to put in the Lumin app an option in the settings that you can (setting A) either limit the 2000 songs with OpenHome compatibility and to have a reasonable time to build up the library asap or (setting B) don't follow the OpenHome compability + take just the time for the app to create the full library regardless of the time it takes.

In the meantime I got used to the Lumin app, and now listen album by album, but indeed like above, I miss the option to play a folder with 1 genre at random regardless of the 10000 songs there may be.

Lots of people have asked that the Lumin playlist 2000 song limit be increased. It should be at least 10,000 songs, and preferably unlimited.

Peted has referred to this before:
LUMIN App Playlist.

"Maximum songs
In order to keep performance consistent across all OpenHome and UPnP AV devices, the maximum number of songs allowed in any single Playlist is 2000.
To manage more than 2000 songs, please split them into multiple playlists using the Save and Load Playlists features above"

Unacceptable. There needs to be larger playlists. I listen to my playlists with random shuffle, so multiple playlists are unacceptable.

Thanks plonkywonky. Seems to me this removes one of the major advantages of digital music - I've been 'shuffling' since early iPod days. Somehow Bluos manage to load the full library in the playqueue very fast, but I'd accept slow frankly. Kazoo seems to have the same problem - 1000 songs. Find myself wondering if JRiver on a laptop might be a solution.

I've have almost 60,000 tracks (after culling) - that be a lot of playlists.....though honestly if there was an easy way of doing it, I might just think about it.

Dear Peter considering that everyday more and more people are using Lumin as an unique Preamp in their systems my humble suggestions is to evaluate the possibility to include some "Tone Controls" or maybe an "Equalizer" in the app enabling us to correct problems in our listening rooms or maybe to adjust sound to our best preferences.

I know that some of this actions can be done through Roon but for the rest of people who do not use Roon it will be a nice upgrade i think.

Thanks in advance

The longer the chain between source and amp the more issues there can be. I like Lumin for the no nonsense design, so I'd stay away from tone controls and do that via a DAC if needed. But, I have a digital player so maybe it can be done only for the devices that have a DAC included.

I think that Tone Controls or Equalizer is really necessary in order to correct problems in our listening rooms or maybe to adjust sound to our best preferences and there is no necessity to include an external dac or something like that.
It can be an extra function on Lumin App hence it can be switched ON/OFF so people who do not want this function can leave it in OFF or something like that.

Considering that Lumin App has a lot of function to include this new one seems to be no further problem... let´s wait Peter comments.

In my case I chose Lumin as Lumin uses no-nonsense design without compromises. Tone and other processing in my humble opinion could completely destroy the feeling and nature of sound. I have heard examples of network players that have such features and have a (distorted) digital output which sounds "processed" even with the feature turned off. It is just processing power that gets wasted on other processing than playing the sound in perfect order. To compare if a 2000 item playlist is already a limiting factor, the unit might not even handle this. I found Minimal is key in the Lumin design.

More important to me, I'd try to resolve issues at the source, this means sound treatment of a room via a transport is not the desired way to fix issues with the room. This should be done in/on the room itself. So for tone controls I recommend still a DAC that has the onboard features to do so, there are several high quality DACs for this specific reason in the 2k$ range that can be used for this.

Small spelling error in the Lumin online manual: Section 5.1 introduction. The header on the page itself says " INTRUDUCTION [..]" --> This should be " INTRODUCTION [..]"

Small visual bug found in the iOS apps, both ipad and iphone:

In the theme versions Dark and Black, when folder browsing..
When you have selected the Folder tab, you see above the row of app icons a rectangle text block which gives the name of the folder/tile where you are. For reference the top level gives the name of the music server, e.g. Minimserver[server]. It is about that rectangle text block.
The visual issue appears as soon as you go 1 level down into one of the tiles e.g. [n] Albums, [n] Items, Artist, Genre, etc. or even further below. Let's call that level -1.
From level -1 what you will see happening in this rectangle text block is that there is approximately 3 mm from the right side a thin vertical line cutting throught the text with the folder/tile name.

This does not happen in the light or white themes.

Another easy fix, a request for a BIGGER play button in the apps (Now I sometimes have to try twice to pause the music)

In the 31Aug iPad update the visual bug I reported 3 posts above has become worse (attached image will disappear in 30 days).

I can’t adjust the volume on my iPhone with the new app version. The adjustment scale is now so high on my phone and I can’t adjust it.

Peter, my X1 just updated to Lumin App version 7.0.5 this morning.

There now seems to be a problem with the play buttons (play/pause, back, forward). They work fine with MinimServer material and with Qobuz and Tidal.

But when using the Internet Radio function the Play/Pause button (as well as the forward and back buttons) is grayed out. There is no easy way to stop/pause any particular station from playing. You can select another channel and that one plays, but then that station can't easily be stopped/paused either. Or you can go to MinimServer, Qobuz, or Tidal and then the play buttons work normally.

I did find a way to stop play of an internet radio station: Press and hold the station icon in the upper left corner of the iPad screen. Some information about the station will then appear, including a grayed-out play button. If you press that grayed out play button, the station stops playing and the regular play button reappears. The regular play/pause button is still then non-functional, however. To play the same or another station, you must tap the icon/station name in your list of internet radio stations.

Please fix. Thanks, Peter.
