    Lumin A1 question

My apology if the question has been asked before. I did go through some of the threads but didn't see this asked or mentioned. On A1 page on Lumin site and in the "INPUT" section, it states "USB storage, flash drive, USB hard disk". I'm wondering if USB thumb drives (small USB flash storage drives) work with the Lumin, if one opts to not use music server like L1?

I'm currently using Bryston BDP-1 with USB flash drives and find it very convenient. I just copy music from my computer to the flash drives, plug them in to BDP-1 (which is connected to my home network with an Ethernet cable) and use Bryston app to control the library. And of course BDP-1 is connected to a standalone DAC (mine is Chord QBD76HD) via Empirical Audio Synchromesh "de-jitterer". I'm looking at A1 to replace all these 3 boxes into 1 Lumin.

And I also find it a little odd that Lumin app is only available through iPad. Is there, at least, a plan to make it available on iPhone?

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the answer, Mike!

Any thoughts/experience on sonic differences playing off the thumb drives vs. NAS servers?

I always found the ethernet sounds a touch better. Check out the Lumin L1, it might be a great compromise for what you like to do.

    Re: Lumin A1 question

It's an option I may just leave it open for now, Mike. In addition to being intrigued by A1 sound, I'm also looking to reduce the number of boxes I have. Granted L1 is not big but thumb drives are still much smaller and virtually invisible when it's connected to the back of the Lumin.

    Re: Lumin A1 question

I've run my A1 every which way. I thought the thumb drive option sounded fine, a slight improvement over running from a stand alone hard drive. It's not until you start using something along the lines of an L1 or NAS that you really hear what the Lumin is capable of giving you. Nice improvements pretty much across the board IMHO. Lower noise floor, more air around the instruments, more of an in-the-room feeling with recordings capable of giving it to you.

That said, the flexibility of the USB inputs are a nice way of getting you up and going until a decision can be made regarding a NAS.

Thanks for the info on the comparison with USB and L1. Exactly my thinking about getting a NAS.

    One A1 ordered.

    Re: Lumin A1 question

A journalist told me yesterday that the balanced output of the Lumin streamers is very superior to the unbalanced one because they only use one half of the balanced signal to make the unbalanced one. Any Lumin owner here has experience on that?
