exFAT USB playback
I see the new 11.0 releease adds support for exFAT USB storage. When I plug in my USB mass storage that is exFAT, the app sees the source, but wont' load or play it. Does anyone know if this release is supposed to provide plug and play and if so, what are the steps to get it to work via the app?
Thanks in advance for any tips!

Re: exFAT USB playback
With the library set to the USB Music Server, do you see the folders of the music files on the USB flash drive? What happens when you tap and hold a folder or a music file to add them to playlist?

Re: exFAT USB playback
Peter,
I do not see any files. The breadcrumbs label says,"Lumen USB music server." A file icon comes up under that, along with Tidal, etc across the top. Clicking on on the file icon does nothing.
I have had a couple occasions where the above label started and then changed to a file icon saying sda 1. But even when it does that, I get no files populating.

Re: exFAT USB playback
If you don't see any folder or file listed, please power cycle your Lumin.
Please also make sure the USB flash drive has exactly one partition containing a file system. No more, no less. Some USB flash drives are formatted during manufacturing without any partition - this is not good.Peter Lie

Re: exFAT USB playback
Tried the Lumin power cycle to no avail. This isn't a flash drive, it's a USB MyBook disc drive. I'm not seeing any indication about patitions in properties one way or the other.

Re: exFAT USB playback
I'll try to find more USB storage devices to test with in the coming days. Meanwhile, could you try some USB flash drives in FAT32 or NTFS format and see if you can access the music files inside?

Re: exFAT USB playback
I tried a Fat32 flash drive and the files do populate, are visible in the app and play. Graphics are not consistently displayed on all files, but that may relate more to the meta data on these particular files.

Re: exFAT USB playback
Album art on USB flash drive is tricky. Mainly it's best to have the album art named exactly as folder.jpg in lowercase.
Which OS version did you use to format the drive as exFAT?Peter Lie

Re: exFAT USB playback
Thanks for the suggeston on metadata. The drive was formatted with Windows 10, 64 bit. Not sure of Windows update version. Would have been about 10 months ago.

Re: exFAT USB playback
For Windows users, it's best to use NTFS format. In the context of Lumin, exFAT is most useful to Mac OS users who cannot write to NTFS without buying additional software.
I tested a USB drive partitioned manually, then formatted by Windows 7 as exFAT. It is recognized by Lumin and can be used to play music as expected. (Need to borrow a Windows 10 PC to do additional test with Windows 10.)
Please find some software to verify that your USB device has one partition - if it has no partition and the whole drive is exFAT, Lumin cannot mount it - this is a known limitation.
If it does have one partition, please perform a Disk Check in Windows.Peter Lie

Windows Computer Management
Rt click on My PC and select Manage, then Disk Management
My hard drive, Disk 0 has multiple partitions while the flash drive Disk 2 has 1
This post is just for reference if needed

Re: exFAT USB playback
Thanks for the screenshot. A problem with Disk Management is that it shows drives with 0 partition and with 1 partition in the same way. Some USB flash drives are manufactured without any partition, even though it has a filesystem.

Re: exFAT USB playback
Thank you for checking into this, Peter. It may have no partition, although I don't know how to determine that. The drive was formatted by someone else, so I'm a bit in the dark. It's basically a backup of all my NAS files plus other files I have yet to transfer to the NAS. I can access and play the files fine through J River and my Windows 10 computer with no Lumin (desktop system), and they transfer to my QNAP NAS just fine. Is there a way to integrate J River to the Lumin for this purpose?

Re: exFAT USB playback
To use Lumin with JRiver, in Tools / Options / Media Network / Add or Configure DLNA Server, add 24-bit Audiophile DAC. Turn on the option for Bitstream DSD (DoPE).
(By the way this is the only way to play SACD ISO using Lumin to playback, if not converting ISO to DSF beforehand. Our native Lumin app with MinimServer cannot support SACD ISO. Even Roon does not support it.)Peter Lie

Re: exFAT USB playback
Hi Peter, are you able to advise on playback of files on exFAT USB where a file plays for a few seconds and then skips forwards, and then skips again etc?
I'm using a D1 with updated firmware.
Kind regards
James

Re: exFAT USB playback
Please try the followings:
- Reserve an IP address for the Lumin in the router DHCP server reservation, then:
- Power cycle the D1. If you have been using a third party LPS, please try the original stock power supply (12V 4.16A).
- Clear the playlist, re add some tracks from the drive to the playlist instead of using saved playlist on your iPad or Android.
- Try another USB thumb drive in FAT32 format.Peter Lie
