    Airplay Volume

I have a new X1 and am having a question regarding the volume when using Airplay. The volume when using the phone not the lumin app jumps a considerable amount with each fine adjustment. With only one "click" it goes from mute to to loud.

I have more granular control with the lumin app but once I adjust the volume in the app if the volume in airplay is touched again it reverts to the "airplay scale".

My whole family uses the system and getting them to only use the Lumin app when they are used to airplay is a challenge. We also use it with our Sonos system and airplay is a good unifing technology.

Try changing the analog audio output level on the LUMIN from normal to low.

Try using the iOS “Control Center” software version of the volume slider rather than the iOS device’s hardware volume buttons to change volume. If you pull down from the top-right of your iOS device’s screen to bring up the Control Center (some older iphones you swipe up from the bottom), then press-and-hold the volume slider, the volume slider becomes much bigger and you can drag for much finer volume control. This works for airplay and some USB/lightning-cck connected devices too like a Dragonfly DAC that don’t have hardware volume controls.

I've sent you a beta firmware that should work better with AirPlay volume adjustment.

    Re: Airplay Volume

Thanks for the responses. I adjusted the output and it just adjusted the issue. The jumps in volume were still large. I also had tried both the buttons and slider. The slider is better but it’s still was not right.

I am going to load up the firmware tomorrow and give it a go. I will report back.

I am absolutely blown away by Peter’s support here in the forum. It really makes me feel very good about my Lumin purchase.

    Peter

The firmware worked great. The volume steps are much better and it works equally well at the Normal as well the Low analog output.

    Thanks for pulling that together.

    Re: Airplay Volume

    Technical explanation:

The AirPlay protocol sends the volume in dB. The original implementation in Lumin actually follows requested dB closer. However, the dB values changed by the iPad volume buttons are not quite appropriate for audio systems our customers use (perhaps they might be appropriate for Apple headphones, I don't know.) The beta firmware rescales the dB to something that is more sensible for our setups, especially since X1 / T2 outputs balanced 6V rms.
