I am in Prag next week. Is there a chance to visit the Kron factory/office and perhaps source some tubes?
    Anybody done or tried?

Discussing with Eunice now about getting the 242.
I hope this is the best option compared to the EML tubes.

Even if not, you should have no problem to offload it. I think there is plenty of interest in this tube and availability is sometime-ish....

Iam just a little concerned about comments such as 101d on steroids, what does that really mean.
Is it leaner than the 101d or does have detail of the 101d but the rest of the 300b.

  8. #58

Re: WTB EML or KR Audio tubes

It has the detail, more dynamics, more soundstage, and more bass and depth. Not lean. 101d and 242 are more neutral than 300bs some of which are more colored and midrange focused

Where does your Emmision Labs 5U4G face, mine the logo faces the side ?
I mean the mesh faces the side of the DAC .

    Can we change that.

I don't think we can change it, had a look at the photos on Lampizator website and they all point to the side. Shame because the Mesh lights up nicely.

This is so on the mark with describing the tube.
Usually when I change tubes, rectifier and the DHT's I go back to the old tube and do some critical listening back and forth to understand and solidify what the differences are.

I replaced the Psvane 101d Hifi with the 242, when I first tried them I had just got home and wanted to check if the tubes were working, etc
No plans to listen to music or expect anything as I was tired.
You know what as soon as I played music I knew straight away these were special and I just packed away the 101d's didnt even think about swapping around to know what the differences were. They were that obvious.

To all that say buy the top model you can and don't worry about upgrading your tubes, you are so very wrong.
I believe the performance of my DAC has improved atleast 30% and I'am being very conservative.
I could easily say its huge.
I'am very thankful to Eunice Kron to assist me in getting these tubes so quickly and at a very fine price.
And lastly for building such beautiful tubes. Its mind blowing how they build such gems.

Congrats deuter! I may have to bring in a 242/274b KR Audio combo to try. How does the 242 compare to the PX4?

On the Lampi, are you using the 242 in the 300b or 101d setting?

My place is dead quite and my pre and power are quite hefty high current amps.
With the 242 8:00 is as high as I can enjoy. But boy are they fun.

Wow! Congradulations! I am very interested to see Elrog 300B vs Globe 45. I am biased towards Elrog.

As for rectifiers, Taka is the way to go.

BTW, can anyone link me to the information page for KR 242? Cann't find it by search. Thanks.

Hi I have not yet heard the PX4. Bill has heard the 242 on the B7 but cannot use it in his GG, so he will have to go PX4. But for B7, from what I understand, 242 makes more sense. When get gets the Px4, I will get to compare it with KR 300b.

I just picked up a pair of PX4 with a demo Seibener today but unfortunately, one of the pair is a bit damaged. You can hear a slight rattle and when inserted it is very susceptible to microphonic noise. The other one is perfect and dead quiet even when clinked with a fingernail. Very nice SQ from these tubes on initial listen, but will take some comparison. I had forgotten I have some vintage VT52 tubes to try and these may be akin to the 242???

Deuter has an output on his Dac of 670mV and this seems to be the maximum output that is workable with the 242. My GG is 2500mV, by way of example. The Demo Seibener is 415mV.

Only Allnic used the KR242 before and in their preamp. Now there is a 4 pin version because of Lampizator.

Wow, that would be only 0.2w, ie 4v *0.05amps.

Are you sure it's not 500 mA? If so that would be 2 amps...more like what I would expect! 101d setting goes up to 4.5watts. 300b setting up to 6.5 watts.

My understanding is that I can use 242 with my GG - it is nothing to do with the Lampi but the output being too hot for some preamps. My new amp can take 10volts on input stage so will have comfortable headroom for 242. I need to confirm this in practice though.

Are you sure it's not 500 mA? If so that would be 2 amps...more like what I would expect! 101d setting goes up to 4.5watts. 300b setting up to 6.5 watts.
    I will check.

Re: WTB EML or KR Audio tubes

From Lampi FB page: Testing newcomer tubes in our big7 dac. It seems like Kron is raising the bar very high.

Introducing: the Limited Edition, one time special production run of the rectifier tube that is our best attempt to offer the ultimate rectifier for our Golden Gate DAC as well as our Lampizator Mono Block amplifiers. This rectifier has 5U4G specifications except that it has the best vacuum in the entire industry so it lives much longer than any new rectifier money can buy. This Anniversary edition has unique glass shape never used before so it is easy to distinguish from regular 5U4G. They made for us only 50 pieces and no more is planned . You can get them through Lampizator distribution network. The first shipment is leaving today to London so you can ask Greg from G-point for it.

LampizatOr According to their chief engineer their vacuum is one order of magnitude better than the next industry peer. Simply their vacuum is second to none. Comparable to out-of solar system environment. That's why KR tubes may last 20-30 years not 2-3.

Nice, they are making good progress with all their tubes.
To say they make a significant improvement in sound is being conservative.
I wonder what the 5U4G would cost, should I even ask ?

Cool stuff! I definitely want one of those Lampi KR 5U4G's. Are those output tubes going to be Lampi branded as well? Which output tube do you guys think would be best?

Retail price from what I heard is €350 plus VAT.

Given how it last 10 times as long as anything else...not too bad!
