Tube Rolling for Lampizator Level 7

I have ordered the Sylvania 5u4g and 5x4g with National Union 45.

Currently stock is 101d Psvane white base and 5c4u.

What should I be trying for best imaging and soundstage.

If its a used B7 from like a year ago, I would recommend the Kr242 (though costly).

I think Mike Lavigne at WBF has a pair for sale. They dont work well in a standard GG, as the voltage output is too high, but they are heaven in a B7...I know, i tried it myself...

Re: Tube Rolling for Lampizator Level 7

For recti try these cheap ones.

Haltron/Zaetrix/Fivre double mica (ceramic spacer) 5r4gy, Brimar 5z4, RCA/Jan world war 2 (pre 1946) double upward sloping getters 5r4gy. They cost about $100 on EBay. Date code for 1944 is "H".

More expensive is the Philips metal base GZ34 and the Brimar 5r4gy FE code.

If cost no object, then the Elrog 300b or the vintage WE 300b with the Takatsuki 274b recti.

Also the Kron Px4/45/300b are mid high priced but have good reps.

The Lampi EML 45 mesh globe is terrific but sold out for now.

The Psvane "UK design" 300B is very good and costs about $350 a pair on EBay.

Do the current EML 45s and 5u4g exceed what you have listed apart from the tatsuki and Elrog ?

I have not used all these tubes, but in severalnthreads people make comparisons and certain popular views emerge.

One or 2 people swear that in general Kron beats EML, and that Elrog/Takat beat all except possibly for the horrendously expensive WE vintage tubes. Takat recti is like $850 and a pair of Elrogs is about $1,200.

Here is a list of tubes and relative prices:

The KR PX4 seems very popular, would be nice if someone that had tried them and compared to EML 45's could chime in.

As for the rectifier don't have a clue, some say the 5u4g from EML cannot be beaten, some say go full nos with either U52 GEC or Marconi 5u4g.

EML 5U4g has been equalled/beaten according to many pundits.

Try the U52, Fatbottle GZ37, metals base Philips GZ34, Takat/WE274B, WE 422A, many 5r4gy etc.

Audiophile Bill on WBF loves the PX4 and he has several Kron tubes. In general he prefers Kron to EML. I mostly have EML experience.

Gopher who posts here also tried the PX4...

Iam comparing the National Union 45's with my Psvane hifi 101d and I hate the very forward presentation of the Nation Unions compared to the 101d's being placed in the middle not so much in the front.
Also the vocals are very thick with the National Union 45.

Try the NUs with a different recti...maybe any GZ34.

I don't know, might not make a difference.

The NU 45's sound a little veiled too

KR 274b is a much better recti, the 101d is very good for output valves, and much better are KR 242s if you can find them. KR 300bs are also better than the 101dd, and I haven't heard the Elrogs or Takatsukis but they should be too, though mich more expensive.

Have you tried the KR PX4 ? And EML rectifiers

  15. #15

Sold my EML recti after listening to KR, and haven't tried px4 yet but the 242 takes the big 7 to almost GG levels

Re: Tube Rolling for Lampizator Level 7

I have no doubt that you liked the KR 274b, but in this price range it's more to do with sound signature than which one is better hence the question on what the difference.

I listen mostly to orchestral and opera so better will have to be for soundstage, dynamics, musicality, control and details of complex music.

So in general does the 274b sound better compared to the 5u4g ?

I have heard the WE274b replica by PSvane is great too.

Hi Db33, i am close to Gva. A pal in Genf has the Lite 7 as does Stewa in Bsl area. Another pal in Argau has a level 5 special version. I have a GG and will soon have a Der Seibener for demo which will be passed around in CH for people to try out for a limited time. If interested you could get on the demo list or arrange with me or Stewa if he is willing to hear our Dacs. Stewa has great tubes.

Re: Tube Rolling for Lampizator Level 7

Hi, Lampi give a very Great sound in a system. I use solid state (the Best) in ampli & pre-> i had try tube preampli but ihmo not at the level from SS products) ampli with tube (and NOT the Audio Research -> only a name without Performance especially in the LF......)

Der Seibener -> this Dac is only for DE/CH/FR...not for other country. if you go recieve a Der7. in test please give me your point of view.

I go pull the trigger for a Lite7. Preampli is already in my system and I use it. Pawel say me that is not the best have a Lampi with volume control and use a extern pre.....simply setting = better sound....

a friend in Itlaly say more and more over Totaldac....is the best, live sound....but with SS a Dac with tube is sure a greets...open your mind!!!

Sorry but if you send back the Der Seibener (or others Lampi) you lose the VAT paid at import. right?

Hi stewa bist du in der nahe von Basel richtig? ich bin in Tessin....auf jeden fall kannst du mir Beschied geben auf Lite7? hast du xlr anschlussen?

The EML is too laid back and lacks the soundstage, bass, and dynamics of the KR rectis. In KR rectis the special Lampi 5u4g is better, but only a few restricted numbers were produced and are sold out, so is unobtanium.

Btw, my KR 274b is now sold.
