that's a nice size room you have there, dart6. i looked on the Lampi site to see what distortion he rates the amps 85 watts into, but it doesn't say. You might ask Gopher. The reason I mention this is that the Lampi amps use no negative feedback- that usually means distortion increases with wattage (and I find no negative feedback a VERY good thing!). So if you are running the amp hard, you are creating more distortion than other types of tube amps. you really want to stay in the middle of the wattage curve on these kind of amps for an optimal pairing.

Keith, I am not so sure about that with the differential summator circuit. I will ask Luk about that when next I speak to him, as I would like to know as well.

    ah...hem...Fred...any sign of my 211's?

Maybe Lukasz needs to send them to Norman for testing first. Thoughts?

    Thumbs up!! LoL

I even have a 1500w power transformer, so I am prepared for all eventualities.
    Hehehehe.

I know that the amp has lots of hard to get parts and Europe is on slowdown for the Summer, so he could be frustrated…especially since it seems like everybody wants GG Dacs and 211 amps now. People are going straight for the jugular.

I will ask about them too. Will try to call tomorrow. I have to send him a demo powercord that is doing a Euro tour.

Re: My Lampizator 211's are here ....

I thought I should update that I have had a change of heart. Lukasz had actually made me a pair of 211 twin towers, and then I made a visit to his new factory house last week and decided on a new pair of GM70 Copper. Bear in mind that one GM70 valve has only marginally less surface area to its internals than two 211 tubes, but the truth is that I have taken advice and made a gut judgement that the GM70 has the rightness and magic that I am looking for. Bear in mind that I had a pair of the first incarnation of the GM70s and sold them due to a low level hum, something that might not be audible to others who place their amps in the traditional manner more than twelve feet away from their listening position on the floor, but they did not work for me as my amps live less than two feet from my primary or close listening position. There have been two improvements as far as my short listening session revealed, the most impressive update has been the complete deletion of the hum, the only sound that one can now hear with their ears right up to the amp is that made by heat and that goes to the second improvement which is that the new version runs noticeably cooler than the early versions. Lukasz asked me to put my hand underneath the units, one can perceive that they are noticeably cool underneath having been on for four hours and then I felt the top of the units and here one can now actually place their hands on the surface without discomfort, this was not possible on early units. Obviously there has been some serious fettling, one major change is that a previously smaller transformer that was housed inside is now huge, placed on the top and close inspection shows that it has been filled with resin to aid that excellent new sound floor. I am informed that a second transformer has also been filled with resin, but that for the preservation of sound quality the third was not treated in this way. All that I required was the five seconds at the beginning of each track to seduce me. These new, utterly silent and literally cooler GM70s stole my heart and so there is a ready pair of 211 for the audiophile who takes issue with the Soviets, the 211 twin towers certainly look very sexy. I got to audition my amps in the LampizatOr HQ listening room and now I am tracking their approach to my UK location via DHL. I shall definitely post a full review of them on my blog once I have had a chance to live with them for a couple of weeks.

If anyone is interested I posted a small essay on my pilgrimage to LampizatOr HQ:

"What kind of power does the new GM70 produce?"

Hi Joe, Thank you. I'm not sure and Lukasz did not say that the figures had changed, but now you have me wondering so I shall call him tomorrow and ask.

You are no doubt aware that the LamizatOr site quotes - Power: 22 WPC single ended class A - Power consumption: 180 WPC on idle per mono.

My previous experience was that the GM70s produce ample power to handle my Spendor S100 [100W 89.5db] speakers, comparable power to my far more powerfully rated back up Marantz PM14 MKII KI Signature and with several orders of magnitude more sublime delivery than the Marantz, which is a fairly respectable amp in its own right. They were previously capable of giving my Victorian house a good shake, certainly capable of party volume, I never needed to turn them up to the maximum setting, three quarters would blow my head off and they were distortion free at every level. It is due to my former experience that I did not hesitate to purchase them, presuming they would be quite adequate. One never says no to extra power, but with my equipment, I don't seem to need it.

I will report back once I have spoken to Lukasz.

    Hey Joe,

I called Lukasz for the details today. The power 22WPC and consumption specs 180WPC have remained the same. The major change that seems to have taken the reliability of the units to a new level has been the use of a silicone bridge rather than a tube rectifier. Apparently in the past if the rectifier tubes failed it caused havoc. Lukasz reports that the changes have been overwhelmingly positive with a better-controlled bass and an expanded 3D image, but a marginal degradation of timber for example when listening to the violin. This is the new design for all LampizatOr amplifiers. I shall try to go more in depth with my review that with any luck will be complete within the month.

My pleasure Joe, I believe that your 211 twin towers utilise the silicon bridge and the transformer updates I mentioned, it is a little confusing as they and the GM70s both seem to have the rectifier valves, but I guess they are there for other tasks. I make the observations in comparison with the original version GM70s.

Nevertheless you are correct, relentless progress is the nature of Lukasz for as long as I have known him. You should have seen some of the rough and ready early units, the excellent sound quality was always there, but the finish and the new enclosures are a very nice step forward.

We need not be concerned about progress for its own sake, I will not be buying his new Komputer for example as there is no sound advantage over my old faithful LampizatOr TranspOrt. In truth, I have no urgent need to upgrade past my Prototype LampizatOr Big6, I will, but it is really an indulgence, the combination of my GM70s+Big6+Transport results in sublime ultimate reference sound reproduction that is a privilege.

I think My ultimate red book Big 6 DAC has essentially been on 24/7 for the last 3 years, without a hiccup, the only thing is I am eager to try out DSD now that I have procured a large pile of it, otherwise the GM70's might have been my last move. From my encounters DSD is like level 10 so that just has to be done.

    Hi Angelo,

The idea of the Komputer or any computer based modern server is to dish up DSD and high rate PCM, otherwise if you stay in Redbook territory, I expect the Transport is still hatd to beat.

With computer servers and dedicated playback software you can get into the high rate DSD upconversion game and use things like HQP and BugHead Emperor.

Thank you Norman, I hope to begin exploring DSD territory next year. I have already made an agreement with Lukasz to go for a Golden Gate later next year and I guess that will be ideal for DSD playback. At this point, I have developed my own iMac 1Tb SSD 'server' with 2 further 4Tb drives connected that I rip my CD's to and I have the software Audirvana+ that can probably up-convert, [I am guessing that means turn my PCM files to DSD to be played on a DSD machine] but am I not limited at this point due to my LampizatOr Big6 being a strictly PCM machine?

More limitations, so far only PC does DSD256. Mac and Linux are limited to DSD1258 with Lampi. However, very soon Linux will break the 128 barrier and will have DSD256 with ALSA. Ask Lukasz.
Linux may soon become the new black.

Actually, Auralic Aries can deliver DSD256 on paper. However, I have to admit that I never like it feeding DSD to my big 7, not up to my expectation. I am very satisfied with aries when playing redbook though.

I know Wyan, but streamers and servers like Lumin/Auralic/ Aurender use a version of Linux with their own dedicated drivers.

I ws talking about general purpose computer servers tht can use any of the commercial software players (to get best in class).

Do you use the Aries ethernet wired or wireless?

    Hi, Norman,

Wireless. But a good 5.8GHZ wifi capable router is needed. I always think I will try wire later but never try it. Shame.

Anyhow, aries is a very good product with good architech. Too bad Auralic did not intend to design it as a high end product. They were targeting towards much bigger entry-level market and have apparently reach their goals.

Hey Joe - did you ever try the GE 211's in your twin towers? I am considering going Lampy balanced with both GG and 211 amps. Curious if the GE's are a minor "tweak" to an already outstanding amp or are they more meaningful to the connection with music?

    Thanks,

    Hi Jordan,

I did, they really are an upgrade to the Psvane. Certainly sweeter, more musical and less grainy. Worth the price of admission. The combo of GG and the 211's is outstanding, the GE 211's add another dimension.

    Thank You, Bill!
The system is quite unusual: active tri-amping with processor and custom made 3-way speakers (15" bass, 12" full range and 3.2" tweeter); Monos will be connected to mids (full range ), for bass is Magnum Dynalab 309 and Lindemann 885 will drive the tweeters. Source T+A D 10-2, preamp T+A P 10-2 and a lot of cables plus PS Audio line filter.

Re: My Lampizator 211's are here ....

After four days listening of the fully balanced Lampizator with KR211 valves; I am very satisfied! The gears are slightly changed in design (improved!) and also with different preamping tubes - four ECC99 (JJ-Electronics Slovakia) instead of three preamping tubes on the original mono blocks (this was surprise for me. . .)
The quality of the sound is immaculate and gives me full satisfaction!!!

Many thanks to all Lampi owners that made me to believe in this monos!!!
    With kind regards, Georgi!

    Big Congrats!! Beauties!

These are VERY different from the one's Joe and I got. I would love to know the specific differences and why those evolutionary changes were made.

    Hi Mike,

The differences are actually pretty small between these and your pair. Lukasz broke down it down as follows:

"we have no news to share. The redesign is only cosmetic, the schematics is still the same. We discovered the JJecc99 tubes and just wanted to try them. They work very well but there is no revolution. We will probably use them because they are new and easy to buy in a local store. The rest of the amp is absolutely the same except that the power transformer is a toroid instead of EI. We rank them as equal except that the toroid is for us a shorter lead time. We will continue to use both as safe diversification of vendors.
Last change is a gold color volume knob - just an experiment in aesthetics."

Just wondering if there are any more experiences with these 211 monos? There is not a lot going on about these on the forums.

    Hi Khonfused,

We haven't brought that many of these amps into the US as shipping was originally a challenge, but since recently getting custom flight cases made for them, we have begun to bring in more.

I've got a pair coming in now for my reference room on Long Island (will be able to show them by appointment) and we also have an upcoming review by Key Kim of Stereotimes who is evaluating them now and loving what he hears so far.

We also got some great feedback on this pair we'd showed off in New Jersey to about 40 local audiophiles last month: RAVE - November 12 - Princeton NJ - Start Time - 1PM

I ordered a pair now to test drive.
I will pair them with my newly aquired Zingali Twenty Evo 1.2 horn speakers with 96 db at 6 Ohm.

Very cool. In the meantime you should expect more 211PP discussion in the very near future. Apart from a pro review coming out soon from Stereotimes, I just got notice that it has been added to their 2016 Most Wanted list! Very cool stuff!
