    DB9 Signature

Hi Mark, it appears the speakers are quite close to the front wall. I’m guessing it’s working with no issue? How far they are from the front wall? Curious as they are back ported.

The backs of the speakers are 21 inches from the wall. Ideally they would be further into the room, but part of the compromise with my darling wife so that we could have the system in the main living area was to keep things aesthetically pleasing. It's still sounding amazing though.

    Hi Mark,

My Vandersteen 7 Mk2’s are only 29 inches off the front wall and that was the recommended position from my dealer. In fact, he threatened to slug me if I moved them.

Congrats, that is a gorgeous setup. As long as you are getting good bass, you are fine! Kharma is very elegant (aptly named...)

    Interesting!

Did he make his recommendation after locating the room's anchor point?

    Hi Jim,

He measured the room, the distance to my listening position, mounted lasers on the speakers for positioning and toe-in of the speakers and used Vandertones to balance the bass. I am extremely pleased with his setup (he’s done many Vandy’s) and haven’t moved them since.

I really like the aesthetics of Kharma speakers. I think Kharma, Zellaton along with Magico make the best looking high-end speakers on the planet.

    Awesome!!!

How did he arrive at the optimum listening position (the Anchor Point)?

    Re: DB9 Signature

DB9's are getting better every day. I'm still in the process of playing with the spacing between the speakers. The Kharmas seem to like being a little further apart than my Salons did. I'm going to compare my Kimber Select 6063 speaker cables to the Audioquest William Tell today and see which one I prefer. The Kimber are an all copper cable, which I have preferred in the past.

The DB9-S resembles and has a US MSRP similar to the Wilson Sasha DAW. Does anybody here have experience with these two speakers they'd like to share?

Mark I am seriously considering the Kharma DB9-S and wanted to ask a few questions. What speakers did you move from and did you listen or consider any others before deciding on the Kharma? Where did you hear the DB9 at to help you make the decision? Thanks

    Hi Marty,

Mark auditioned and purchased the Kharma DB9-S from Mike at Suncoast Audio. He can fill you in on the rest.

Thanks Ken, I was pretty sure Mike sold them to Mark but wasn’t sure if he had heard them elsewhere. Mike no longer has a pair of DB9-S in the showroom.

True, they are at my house. You are more than welcome to come listen any time, especially now that I’ve got the room fixed up. Also, they will be returning to the store in December/January when my new speakers arrive (Kharma MIDI Exquisite 3.0 with upgraded Omega F drivers).

    Re: DB9 Signature

Hi Marty, I did get them from Mike. My previous speaker was Revel Salon 2's, actually for the second time. I had gone through Raidho D3's and a couple of others before getting the Salons for the second time.

I wasn't even looking for speakers when I was down in Sarasota visiting the 2 Mikes. Went to his store with a bunch if Mike's friends and couldn't believe my ears.

I'll answer any questions you have.

The Kharmas,to my ears, are the best speaker I've heard. When I heard them I couldn't get them out of my head. Everything just sounded so real and natural.

I'm sensitive to tweeters that are bright, these have the best highs, Sweet, detailed and very natural. Even better than the Salons, which I thought had the best beryllium tweeter in the world. The one thing about these speakers that stands out the most is their ability to convey everything in the recording, stuff you've never heard before no matter how many times you've listened to it. There seems to be a complete lack of background noise that allows all that information to be heard. Huge soundstage too.

You really should hear them if you can. Even the little S7 is an incredible speaker. If I ever do buy another pair of speakers, it will be something better in the Kharma line.

That's something to look forward to! You had said you thought the Viva Spirits would overdrive the room -- what is it about the MIDI that would make it a better fit?

Vivid Spirits? Yes, they are a much bigger speaker. The midis are actually 1 inch shorter than the DB9-S. A world class small speaker. How novel! Most $100k+ speakers are behemoths.
