Wireless app update for the LS50

They have updated the app for the LS50 wireless. While it is an improvement, it still needs some work.

Tidal is is now on the app and it works without glitches however, no masters section. You also don't know the bitrate it's playing or if it's MQA masters or not.

Streaming from my nas has improved quite a bit however, it did glitch a few times where it started a song, played a second, paused, started it again and, in the middle of a song, paused, started it again, changed tracks!. I have never that issue with my Lumin or when I had the bluenode 2.

I did do a comparison between the sound quality on Tidal and my own lossless wave rips and wave still has more clarity. Tidal still sounds darn good though.

I thought I read the update now allows you to change the setting when you change sources but this did not work. I am not sure if I need to do anything additional to make this happen or I read it wrong.

While it is an improvement, it still needs a lot of work.

    1.Add masters to tidal
    2. Stop the pausing
    3. On the top, put some shortcuts to tidal, media servers, favorites, and settings so you don't have to hit back 4-7times to get where you want to go.

After a little bit, the tidal portions of the app started skipping tracks. Like it was playing track 5 then 1/2 way through it, went to 7, started it and paused and stopped for a minute, then went to the next track.

Back to using the lumin where where I do not have this issue.

I tried the update yesterday. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you search an artist on the LS50 Tidal app, you only can choose the particular album and the artist isn't sorted by songs like on the regular app. Very cumbersome as I like to select an artist and immediately see the most recommended songs for that artist to select.

The app on my lumin looks much nicer. Less cumbersome as you can see from the pics.

On the kef app you have to search, then mine had 2 tabs, songs and the artist. I have to click on the artist, go to another tab to get to the albums. Instead of clicking once, its like 4 times.

There isn't a better app than the Lumin app. It's superb.

Re: Wireless app update for the LS50

I joined up on the KEF owners group on Facebook. I just learned besides the app update, there is an update for the firmware as well however, Some people are saying after changing firmware, there is a hissss and an audible crackle sound. Has anyone here done the firmware portion? If so, how did it go? Any issues?

Several people on a different forum and the kef owners group on facebook are complaining of a hiss or crackling noise after the firmware. I am not sure how often Kef checks that group on facebook but, I hope they get a fix for that quick.

Hi, I had this exact problem. It was unbearable!

I've tried everything changing cables, source, connections, etc.
Contacted KEF today and they suggested I re download the firmware.

Before re downloading, I reset the speakers again (button on the back of speaker) and all is fine again.

    good luck

I'm sorry to say I responded too quickly.
The problem is still there. Will contact KEF again tomorrow. The issue seems to be only with the main speaker.

Re: Wireless app update for the LS50

I am so glad I held off on doing the firmware update and only did the app update!!!!!

On the Kef group on Facebook Kef yesterday responded

KEFWe are aware that there are a very few customers who experienced this and we are in the process of trying to find the root cause. Try to re-load the firmware update and let us know if that worked or not. As far as backloading the FW update, we'll get information on that and pass it along

So it looks like doing the reload is not working Shoot!!!!!! I hope they get this resolved quickly.
