R500 or R700

Randy, if you don't mind me asking, how is the KEF sound evolving during break-in? I only have the small portable Muo (also with Uni-Q).

Great choice btw, many happy listening hours with your new gear!

The KEF's are smoothing out considerably. Out of the box the speakers sounded a bit bright, a little harsh, and the bass seemed to be a bit lacking. It was like the bass drivers needed to loosen up a bit... like they were being held back somewhat.

The vocal range started smoothing out within several hours, maybe ten or so. The bright edge is/has smoothed out nicely and is settling in with the KEF sound I love so much. The bass has really opened up. I certainly would not say lacking in any bass at all right now. It is like the drivers have a breath of fresh air and are now tightening up nicely.

I would say they are still breaking in. But the changes are fairly amazing so far and every day I enjoy the speakers more and more!

Ah the best is yet to come. Wait till you hook tubes to them.

I have used both my Audio Research amplifier and my Quicksilver amplifiers with the KEF's. Both sound fantastic, as does the First Watt for lower volume listening (evenings anyone)...

An Audio Club buddy was over listening to them for about four hours with the Quicksilver amps... he could not believe how many passages were actually giving goose bumps...
