Onkyo P-3000R preamp
Has anyone heard this preamp? I'm considering getting one either from music direct or amazon. They both have 30 day money back guarantees. The price is good at $1699 USD.
It looks great on paper and I can't find a bad review on it. Or is it an overrated piece of junk.
Let me know either way. Thanks.

Re: Onkyo P-3000R preamp
Looks good, and I would expect it to also sound good. Also, having a DAC is another feature. The biggest negative that would prevent me from using it if I were looking for a pre is it doesn't have two sets of analog balanced inputs, and balanced outputs. So I would have to buy new cables to use it. On the other hand, it does have a balanced digital input for the DAC.
Bud
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD
Pass XP-22 pre, X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers, SPOD spikes
Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR for source, Denali 2000 (2) for amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables
Mapleshade Samson four shelf maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
Three 20 amp circuits.

HI Dave.............its not a bad Preamp for the price(although never pay full retail) i heard it hooked up to the Onkyo Mono Blocs which were powering the Kef Blades for a few hours and it did a decent job-good build quality and easy to use.

Yeah, I agree. It's packed with features. The DAC has upsampling too. Bass and treble controls are nice to me as well. I noticed that regarding the lack of balanced ins and outs. It shouldn't be that much of a problem to me. Sometimes single-ended sounds better as long as the cables are very well-shielded.

Is this the 24/192 version in which the first song has some chatter/crowd ambience before it starts which isn't there in the original release of the album?
