    Hello from Minnesota

Hello all. I'm pleased to finally join the forum, after several years of off-and-on lurking.

I'm 55 years old and live in St. Paul, Minnesota in a house with plaster walls, wood floors, and a fair number of area rugs. The acoustics are good!

I've loved music and the things that create and recreate music since my parents bought me a toy piano at age 3, and bought me my first $129.99 stereo from JC Penny (with AM/FM tuner, turntable, cassette, AND 8-track) when I was 10. When I got a newspaper route and started earning my own money, the stereo-system upgrades then commenced.

Piano-wise, I have a 1922 7-foot Steinway that I need to play more often and needs tuning. To be honest, I sing more than I play. I've been a tenor in volunteer auditioned choruses for the great majority of my adult life, and choral music is among the many, many things I listen to. This evening, on Qobuz I found some jazz/rap that is really speaking to me. Love it.

Equipment-wise, my gear pales in comparison with that of many members I'm sure. But I have several setups throughout the house, and a wife who is pretty tolerant (although she smiled broadly when I said I was getting into headphones). The common thread throughout three of my four (or five?) systems are Harbeth speakers. I have two pairs of P3s and a pair of C7s. I just love them. I'm in the market for a second Lumin U2 Mini and looking to improve my digital storage systems, so that is the motivation for me joining the forum.

Anyway, thanks for reading my introduction. And thanks in advance for the good conversation and advice.

My friends were so jealous I had a cassette player/recorder AND an 8-track player! Before I got my paper route, I saved up my allowance to buy a microphone for the cassette recorder. That was a game-changer. If radio would've paid better when I was choosing a career in the 1980s, I would've gone that route. (I was a newspaper journalist instead in part because it paid slightly better.)

Snow for sure! We got about 10 inches at our house a few days ago. However, I'm fortunate to be typing this from snow-free Sarasota at present. Had the good fortune of meeting Mike today and making a purchase! Not of Harbeths, but of Lumin. Thanks again Mike!

Yes ... something about the Harbeth sound, not sure what it is. I lived for several years with a couple other speakers with similar reputations -- Sonus Faber and Spendor. Good, but the Harbeths suit my tastes better.

Thanks for the welcome. And Wisconsin home ... oh very nice. My wife and I never got into the cottage/cabin thing ... maybe because unfortunately I grew to detest fishing, probably because my dad loved it and would rouse me out of bed at an ungodly hour when we supposedly were on vacation. Some Minnesotan I am, eh?

    Re: Hello from Minnesota

No lake place? Unprecedented breach of protocol. You’re in danger of losing your Minnesota Man card. But I get it. Lake life is not for everyone. I’m definitely a fair-weather fisherman. No 4 AM wake-ups for me. We hang out at our place for a few months in the summer and sometimes for the winter holidays. It’s a nice getaway.
