    Greetings from Michigan

Hi all. Glad to be here as I have been lurking for years. I am presently doing research to put together my dream and probably last system. I have found the conversations here so very helpful! Your posts have given me a lot of homework and things to consider. I’m very appreciative.

Joe, I am infatuated with the Luxman L590axll. I see you have that, so I’m glad you asked. I must be honest and say that I am not yet fully versed on digital vs. analog except for the basics. Right now I am really trying to figure out what I need for my listening preferences.
Would certainly appreciate the opportunity to bounce some questions off of you since you have the Luxman and get your input.

    Welcome from a fellow Michigander!

That Luxman is great, I've been eyeing something like that for a system here, too, but keep spending the funds elsewhere, haha.

I had a used McIntosh receiver that recently blew up. I have two sets of speakers: 1. a pair of 1976 Klipschorns, 2. a pair of Cornwall lll. Both high efficiency, so Im thinking the 30 w Luxman may be a great match. Just not sure how it will sound w the Klipschorns, though by all reviews, it’s warmer than most SS. Not interested in tubes for a couple of reasons. I listen to a lot of wifi radio, but I think if I had a great sound I would listen to cd’s and even vinyl more often. Love these speakers! Would love to keep them as long as I can.

Thanks, Mr. Peabody. I appreciate any suggestions/advice you may offer.
It is a scary prospect though buying that blind...I think the closest retailer to me is Indiana! Wish I could demo it first because I know all speakers are different.

I understand, it may limit your options but I'd buy from an online retailer who allows a return policy. Many allow 30 to 60 days to listen in your home then you can return if not happy. I'm pretty sure Music Direct caries Luxman amongst other high quality brands. Cary Audio also sells direct now and may be a good match with your Klipsch. Cary has mostly tube gear but I believe they either have a solid state or hybrid integrated now. Definitely best to hear for yourself and in your home is best.

Mr. Peabody, thanks for that tip - I just checked out Music Direct’s website, and they do have a 60 day satisfaction guarantee. You just have to pay return postage. This is a relief to know. The Luxman 590axll is currently sold out, but more are coming in. Have you had experience w Music Direct, or know of people who have? Are they above board?

I can attest that they are completely above board. While I have not exercised their return policy, I have made many purchases, and even chatted with them a few times for various inquiries. (A friend joked that I paid the postage bill one year for their catalog mailing. )

As Don mentions MD is creditable. I have purchased a couple items from them over the years, my record cleanr and ccessories, my LP rack. I've not returned anything but requested another part to my rack and they happily sent it out for me.

Music Direct is a good outfit.

Unfortunately, I have had to stop sending clients to them because of some guy in Florida.

IIRC, his name is Mike something or other...

He owns a fantastic audio store named Suncoast Stereo or Audio or High Fidelity - not 101% sure of the name, but I have never known a retailer who will not sell something to you (that he carries) because he realizes that it would be the wrong choice for your system.

Not only does he always try to do the right thing for his clients, he has a HUGE collection of genuine audio stand-outs from which to select.

Plus, because he can hear, and he cares about them, he tries to help clients with installation whenever he can.

Genuine Customer Service is something that's all too rare in these times, and should be supported whenever possible, IMO.

Strongly agree with Jim. Nothing wrong with MD (I buy vinyl from them). But do not overlook a dealer like Mike Bovaird at Suncoast. High integrity, has excellent ears, sells great brands and great to do business with for all things audio.

I too thought of Mike at Suncoast; however, they do not offer a 30 or 60 day satisfaction guarantee. So, if the Luxman, no matter how wonderful I’m sure it is, does not match up with my Klipschorns, I’m out around 9 grand. That’s pretty rough.

Nope, sorry, we don’t. MD’s model is well known for being abused. Sorry, got burned so many times I lost track. Porsche won’t let me use a 911 for 2 months and return it unfortunately. Plus, 590’s are a 4-6 month back order. The one we ordered in June (yes June!) just arrived today! We could sell 20 tomorrow if we had them. The demand is very high.

    Agreed!!!

    That would be VERY rough.

Do they say what happens with returned items?

Is there a trust-worthy guarantee that you won't get a returned & previously used item (but cleaned up & repacked)?

Interesting how you say MD is a good place in one post then insult their integrity in another with conspiracy theory. Anyone retailer could do what what you incenuated. If you know anything about MD you'd know they often sell those open box items and upfront about what they are. I have no reason to promote MD, just stated the facts what they offer. What you did is low. I'm really surprised. Crutchfield does the same thing, offers returns and then offers any returns as an option on that models page.

    Conspiracy theory????

I simply asked a question for which I did not have an answer.

More than a few retail outlets these days have slipped a bit, and are not exactly on the up & up, IMO.

Very glad to hear that Music Direct is one of the Good Guys in this area as well.

FWIW, I don't recall ever being called a conspiracy theorist anytime, anywhere in my entire life.

I would accept an apology if you are so inclined.
