    Decware

Good morning all. I am curious if anyone has any feedback on the Decware Zen Triode integrated amp? I put a deposit to get on the “list” back in March, I’m not second guessing that choice, just reaching out to see if anyone has some experience with them. This is going to replace my office tube amp driving bookshelf speakers (Klipsch RP 600m) which have the high efficiency (96 db) recommended for the Decware amp.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Yes, the lead time and back log is extensive to say the least.

    Re: Decware

I put my order in for their phono pre-amp in May 2022. I canceled it in May 2023. Looking at their current order/wait list, had I kept the order "live", there are still about 700 orders before my place in the list. I don't mind waiting for a product, but a potentially two year wait for a product seems fairly excessive.

Definitely understandable, especially with many other great options (AR I/50, MA 252 etc…) with quicker availability. Fortunately, this isn’t a must have in the immediate future. When the day comes that mine actually arrives I’ll be sure to link a video after its burn in time.

Of all the dozens of pieces of gear I've owned over 40 years, there are only TWO pieces of gear I miss - one of them I sold last year and is the Luxman tube integrated LX-380. Hopefully I'll have a tube integrated back in my system at some point again.

I compared it to the Decware and preferred the Luxman however since you are in no rush to get the Decware, once you get it if you don't love it you could probably sell it for what you paid for it.

Definitely let us know how you like it when you get it.

Thanks for the input Michael. That is the one thing I’ve read IRT the Decware, you either love it or hate it… Part of me wonders if that very long wait time gives a negative light when the unboxing day comes… so you would kinda have a pre determined - if this doesn’t blow my socks off, its getting sold.

What is the second piece of gear you miss?

After a 2 year wait time I think it's hard to NOT be disappointed no matter how good something may be.

The other unit on my list was an EAR 834.

It took me a year to finally get my turntable. Timeliness is a gamble whenever you order from a very small company, especially if it's a one or two person operation.
    Hope the Decware is wonderful!

For me, I had made my purchase purely on the strength of the research I had done ... I had never actually heard the phono pre-amp. So, in some ways, canceling the order after waiting for a year was much like the cat inside Schrodinger's box: it could be thought of as both the best piece of gear and the worst piece of gear at the same time. Only be finally listening after a two year wait would I know which it was. I decided to let the mystery live on.

sounds more like Stockholm Syndrome, you tell yourself its going to be great and its worth the abuse. Life's too short and theres a TON of other gear ready now for the taking.

I bought an amp from Steve (mini Tori which is for sale). Even went to the farm to get it. The man ran a small but good operation. He was skilled at it. I'm going to guess there maybe some illness here.

I don't think it's that. He sent out some review samples to the normal round of reviewers and they all reviewed the same way in lock-step. That led to a surge in orders to a brand that was not well known among the masses prior to that.

His lead time has for years before that been a minimum of 6-8 months which more then doubled after the mass-market reviews.
