    Auditioning an Accuphase E-360

    Hello,
I'm a first-time Audioshark poster, but I've been lurking around for a while to get a feel for the neighborhood. There's lots of great information to gather here and It's great that it's shared in such a friendly environment.

Having recently acquired a pair of Joseph Audio Pulsars for my my small listening room, I'm currently auditioning an Accuphase E-360 integrated to replace my Unico Nuovo hybrid. My first impression is extremely positive, with the Accuphase extracting the taut bass and fast detailed sound that the Pulsars are capable of (remarkable for small stand-mounts, BTW). The Accuphase also seems to be able to maintain a very involving presentation of these qualities at a very moderate volume level, something that not all SS amps can do.

I was considering a fully tubed integrated, but the Pulsars, while presenting a pretty steady 8-ohm load, do measure out to less than 84dB of sensitivity. Does anyone have any long term ownership experience with Accuphase gear? If I lay out this kind of cash for an integrated, it's going to have to last me for a long time. Any comments would be appreciated.
    -Eric

Eric, welcome to the tank! Your Joseph Audio Pulsars are quite an amazing speaker as you have noted. I haven't heard them with Accuphase electronics, but you shouldn't have any concerns about the build quality and longevity of Accuphase products. They have many similarities with Luxman, in that they are not inexpensive but can provide reference level performance with a musicality that is rare to find among the majority of solid state gear. They are truly built like a tank. I have owned some Accuphase separates for over twenty years without any issues, and just enjoyed the beautiful music that they provided. While the Pulsars do have a low rated sensitivity, they are a tube friendly impedance load and I have heard them perform superbly with moderately powered tube amps. I wouldn't go with any tube amps under 50 wpc, but then you should be fine at most reasonable listening levels. From your comments it appears that you may have found your ideal match with the E-360. Please let us know whatever you decide, and enjoy the tunes!

A local dealer has a great price on a E-460. That caught my eye. Now only if I could find a reason to add a system.

Accuphase integrated have always intrigued me.

    Re: Auditioning an Accuphase E-360

The specific quality that the Accuphase brings to the table, at least to my ears, is the ability to deliver impactful transients, the realistic texture of acoustic instruments, and tight well-controlled bass, all at relatively moderate volume levels. I do my listening in the spare bedroom of our condo and my wife does not share my enthusiasm for much of the music that I play, so the volume thing is crucial. To be able to experience the emotional impact that great music delivers without disturbing the household, that's my holy grail.
