Amazing that the VPI Direct turntable can be named 2013 product of the year by listening to it in the VPI system.
It was not even listened to in the reviewers system?

Advetorial anyone?

To say this review is a disappointment is an understatement. If the reviewer deemed it necessary to do a review at the VPI factory, surely at least an in depth comparison of it vs the VPI HRX or Classic 4 might have been nice. I guess it is hard to have any depth in the review, in what seemed to be a casual listening session one afternoon.

Imo, this does nothing for Tone Audio's reputation, nor VPI's.

Hopefully we will read a proper in depth review of this exciting turntable in another magazine. It surely deserves it.

Haha!! I was thinking the same thing about doing a review in the building where the product is manufactured and with the owner of the company there. I've been to vpi several times and although I don't have the access this guy had I'd want to take it home for a month to get a real feel for it. But all reviews these days must be taken with a grain of salt!!
I will say I love this online magazine , it's very professionally done and very well written and for the most part some good reviews . Very easy to read as there are not billion page articles to deal with.
Funny the ta 110 tonearm this guy reviewed this issue was my exact feelings about this tonearm which I've been using for a few months now. He nailed it.

I hear you Steve. The mag is great for finding and reviewing things that you don't normally see on other sites. I would imagine that a more thorough review will be upcoming since it was after all the product of the year. I imagine the Classic Direct didn't get a proper review because it had to make the publication deadline. ;)

Had to make publication deadline?
How can any magazine make a product of the year, when it has not even been listened to in their own system under normal review conditions.
I hope you are right and a further detailed review is in the works, however no mention of that in the review.

The infomercial reeks of " exclusive, first " review mentality. It is no secret a couple of reviewers have the VPI DD in for review and this just seems like a way to be seen as the first review before them.

I totally agree that there is no way that any reviewer can make an informed review of a product if it hasn't been used in their own system. To take that piece of gear and call it the product of the year is a joke really. I was being a wise-ass about the "publication deadline" comment.
