My eagerly awaited report of Suncoast’s meet your maker show is here!
Camping out for 5 days was well worth it. I was first in and hogged the sweet spot in the presentation room for most of the evening!
First one up was Peter and the famed Magico M3 Girls. He delved into the construction of the Magico speaker line and the gals showed off their magnificent beryllium tweeters with magico diamond dust coating. He explained the complexities of designing t(w)eeters with the proper flexibility and rigidity and why it necessitated this choice of materials. Then he delved into woofer construction and boasted of an audiophileac first in using pornographene to stiffen them.
Then Aldo with Audio Research took the floor and went into the revolutionary design of their new 160M mono amps. He said when their head engineer passed away, he was on the brink of bringing the new amps design to fruition. But, alas his handwritten notes were like an MD wrote them. So as a team they retro designed the amp to the new parameters and requirements the engineer had wanted. First they eliminated those pesky tubes and installed these clear light bulbs which you can pick up at any Walmart and welded the board to a solid state amp.
This eliminated all the problems with tube amps like tubes being unavailable or unreliable plus there is no need to bias them. You can have the beautiful warm or cool glow of your choosing, and they are available in soft Matt or clear for those who like to see the tube filaments from your neighborhood Walmart.
He also brought up the rumor that the California wild fire was caused by a careless audiophile camper whose rogue amp had a bad tube and exploded causing the incendiary problem. The new 160M amps have a fused circuit to prevent such mishaps and there is a motion in the California legislature to require these specs in all tube amps going forward. He also slipped up and told us of upcoming products like a stereo version and a lower powered 75watt unit all with this new technology.

Last but not least Jay with Chord Audio demonstrated the Chord Blu players upsampling, unsampling, oversampling, reconstructive filtering, buffering, and gate-arraying prowess turning ordinary red book CDs like the thriller in Manila into a bonafide contender to vinyl for an analog out of body experience...........fly like a butterfly and sting like a bee......smooth criminal...... Gotta get me one of the new upscalers for my Chord Dave now.
Even though I am a devout Magico fan (owning S3Mk2s) I mentioned to Peter McKay there was one thing Avantgardes could do that Magicos couldn’t...... yep, bean bag toss, its a fun game with horns with Trios presenting the biggest challenge of all. And yes you know what happened next.....the Unos Xd in the store stole the show......everyone participated in the cornhole throwing contest including Mike.
The yummies were of course delicious. I filled a doggie bag before I left! I swear those RiceKrispy treats had a special ingredient imported probably from a Colorado dispensary!
And I shouldn’t mention this since Mike was gracious enough to host the shindig but he got so plastered he put the Avantgarde Bell over his head and danced around the place with all of us forming a giant conga line!............
And now you know.........the rest of the story
