Using Fiber Optic cable to Oppo, will that improve attached Fire Stick 4K picture quality?

Using Fiber Optic cable to Oppo, will that improve the attached Fire Stick 4K picture quality?

I am confused as to how Prime and Netflix get the picture through the 4K Firestick. Does it download via the ethernet cable attached to the Oppo? Or does it download via my Dish receiver?

I happen to have 2 spare TP-Link Gigabit SFP to RJ45 Fiber Media Converter's along with 2 module transceivers and extra Fiber cable.

I have a 4K Fire Stick attached to my Oppo 205 and I was wondering if I converted the ethernet to fiber and back at the Oppo would that speed up or improve picture quality is some way with downloads for Prime or Netflix?

Re: Using Fiber Optic cable to Oppo, will that improve attached Fire Stick 4K picture quality?

Based on my understanding of the Fire Stick 4K:

    1. The Fire Stick 4K should be directly plugged into a HDCP 2.2 HDMI port of your TV, it should not be connected to the Oppo

    2. It uses a WiFi connection to your WiFi router, through which it streams the video

    3. If you attempt to use a fiber network connection to the Oppo, it is not related to the Fire Stick regardless of what the Fire Stick is connected to.

    4. If you intend to try a fiber improvement for Oppo, you may consider using a fiber HDMI cable. I use one, but I do not observe any picture quality difference. Some projector users reported a picture quality improvement compared to a long copper HDMI cable.

    wklie,

Once again thank you for the valuable information. The Oppo does have a dedicated HDMI input and the 4K Firestick operates fine through that input and I think using the Oppo also improves the picture quality.

So its too bad that the Firestick uses wi-fi only so the fiber cable would not help.

If you have later than the 1st generation Firestick, you can get an ethernet adapter - Amazon.com

If you need an ethernet connection behind the Oppo and don't have one, you can always get an ethernet to powerline adapter ($40-50), which will give you speeds better than wifi.

    Phil A,

Thanks for that information. I just ordered the ethernet adapter that you posted.
Question though:, the Firestick has a HDMI connector how will that work with this device?

I have used these type of converters for my Lumin X1 and was really impressed with the bump up in sound quality. I just purchased a EtherRegen so I now have the extra converters the TP-Link Gigabit SFP to RJ45 Fiber Media Converter's along with 2 module transceivers and extra Fiber cable.

The adapter has two inputs. One for the Ethernet cable and the other for the power supply. It also has one output that connects to the Fire Stick and also provides power to it.
The HDMI from the Fire Stick connects directly to the TV (or the Oppo if you desire to use the video capabilities of the Oppo player).
The benefit of the wired (Ethernet) connection (regardless of material) is better bandwidth consistency. That means less likelihood of dropouts or picture freezing as compared to a WiFi connection. However, if you are not experiencing dropouts or picture freezing when using WiFi, don’t expect to get a better picture quality just because you switched to a wired connection regardless of material.

    nicoff,
The 4K firestick only has a HDMI output and a wired power supply. I still don't understand how the it connects to the 4K Firestick.
    Please help me understand.

Ok, now I know what is going on.
My 4K Firestick was of the first generation and it did not have any external port on it. It seems the newer version does, so I just ordered it plus the adapter.

Update: I just ordered a different adapter TP-Link USB to Ethernet Adapter (UE305) it is said to offer gigabit speed, while the Firestick adapter does not.

Sheesh, All this just to try to convert it to Fiber cable...

I think I am going to abandon this project. My wi-fi signal to the 4K Firestick is strong and not a problem so I don't think I would have much to gain with the fiber adapter connections.

I was going to say, spend the money on making the WiFi better, if needed. Sounds like it works well enough just plugged into the Oppo unit, a common arrangement.
