How to use Pre-Outs?
Now that I have McIntosh AV processor and MC257, my Cambridge Audio CXR200 lies without use. This would definitely shorten its life span. To avoid redundancy, I hooked up the CXR200 pre outs with the analogue input of Boulder 866. The HDMI cable from my set top box goes into the CXR as does the HDMI arc from the LG OLED to the CXR200 HDMI arc connection. I do get visuals but there is absolutely no sound. Can anyone point out how I could get sound from the speakers in this setup?

Re: How to use Pre-Outs?
To the best of my knowledge, the Boulder 866 does not give you the option of a HT pass-thru input. All of the inputs are standard line-level inputs.
That being said, I would think that to get sound in the manner you've set it up, you would need to adjust the volume knob on both the CXR200 AND the Boulder 866. The CXR200 to get an actual signal to come out of the pre-amp (but not so loud that it overloads the input on the Boulder) and then the Boulder so that the sound comes out of the speaker terminals.
I would contact Boulder and see if they have any suggestions for rigging up a HT pass-thru input-like setting without actually having an HT pass-thru input.Electronics: Pass Labs XP-22, Pass Labs X250.8

Re: How to use Pre-Outs?
You should be getting sound, I suspect a setting in the TV or Cambridge needs to be checked.
The 866 would need to be set the the input you are using. Make sure the LG and Cambridge are set to do ARC.
It wouldn't hurt, or shorten, life to box up the Cambridge. You could sell it. You would be betteroff using another digital out to the 866 from the LG.

Re: How to use Pre-Outs?
Storing the Cambridge should not shorten the life. Either way, if you use it or store it, some capacitors will dry out over time and oxidation will occur on contacts and solder. Before storing you could clean and condition contacts with De-oxit cleaner and then the conditioner.

I upgraded the power supply on my Gigafoil v4 to a Weiss PSU 102. It’s very nice step up. But with the new model, you’re looking at $2000 before even investing in a SOTA linear power supply.
