IMHO Hegel H590 > always great product from the Norwegian company.
Scheduled to ship in early autumn, the Hegel 590 ($12,000) is poised to become the Norwegian company's new flagship integrated amplifier. With a power supply 50% larger than that of Hegel's previous top-of-the-line integrated (the H360), the 590 operates in class-AB, delivering 301Wpc and maintaining low distortion with a feed-forward system that kicks in as needed. As with previous Hegel products, its D/A section uses a built-from-scratch master clock, rather than an off-the-shelf chip, and it does PCM up to 384kHz, and up to DSD256 (DSD over PCM).

Just curious if there's a certain brand speaker you like to match Hegel with?

In one system we match the new Hegel H190 with the Dynaudio Special Forty. Really hard to beat that synergy. Our customers are shocked at how amazing this sounds. Have had good results with ATC and the H360 or separates. In a while, I think we'll try Dynaudio Contour with the big H30 amp.

Hegel is known to be a great match with Thiel speakers.

Interesting, this is the first time I've heard of this pairing. KEF is probably the pairing that is best known, but there seem to be plenty that work well.

    Re: Hegel H590

I was having some trouble getting my Revel Salons to open up in my basement. I had some affordable gear a parasound a21, Anthem 225I, peachtree 300, couple others i'm forgettingand then I started bringing home Hegel and even the little 70 wpc Rost sounded more natural than the others, specifically the midrange where audiences on live recordings were suddenly in the room with me! I ended up with the H360 as the less powerful amps were getting warm the H360 sounded every bit as good as the other Hegels and stays cool to touch at fun levels. Since buying the Int I upgraded my Salons to the Salon2's and the H360 is still bringing it.
I noticed with these speakers differences are obvious in many amps of similar power ratings with the A21 having its own sound, Hegel manages to sound natural while being cleaner, while I probably couldn't tell the Anthem and peachtree apart despite 1 being a/b and the other class d?

    Re: Hegel H590

A dealer here recently picked up Hegel. I brought the 360 home to get a feel for how they sound. The overall sound was inviting, piano had exceptional flow. It's like you hear more into the recording without the presentation being analytical. I enjoyed going through familiar music and hearing how the 360 rendered it.

My only criticism the sound stage seemed small. I read reviews where the writer says Hegel has a presentation like being further back in the hall. To me images just seem smaller, not further away. I was wondering if anyone else hears this or maybe not so on different speakers. My JBL are short in stature compared to Salons.

I was playing with a HD30 and popped a set of old Siltech New Yorkers between it and my preamp, now there was some synergy. Though they were RCA I liked them in that position even better than my Clarus XLR. The Siltech has a character that always seems to magnify the sound stage and the tones are natural.
