I know this is a very specific ask, but if you don't ask you don;t get...
My system:
NAS (Synology DS1819+) for music storage
Intel Corei5 NUC running ROON ROCK
Connected via GB ethernet to Auralic Vega G1 DAC and then via XLR to Hegel H390

ALSO
Connected via Phaser Lush USB to iFI Purifier3 to USB input of Hegel H390

I am trying to determine whether to hang on to the Auralic or to switch to the Hegel's internal DAC and free up budget for the next project.

I think I can hear a difference, but it is not night and day, which in itself is a major win for the Hegel considering the Auralic is a 3700 Euro DAC ($4100 in Europe).

Have any Hegel 390 owners done similar tests and if so, what were your findings? What did you look for and what was the outcome?
I seem to get slight digital fatigue after listening to the Hegel via USB for a while, but even that could be imagined.
Thanks

As a suggestion, physically take the G1 out of your system for a week.
Look back and see how your musical enjoyment has been in that week
Sometimes a quick or short change of gear can seem to be an improvement yet over time you start to notice it's shortcomings.
It's a free experiment that may help you to make the decision.
After all, it's your system and your ears.
Enjoy and have fun with it.

jadedavid, thank you, that is a suggestion both simple and brilliant :) Will try and report back.

Any updates? I think the H390 has a very good DAC. Though unfortunately I do not have anything to do a A/B compare to.
