I undertook the task of trying out a few of these shaving clubs. A little pissed with the price gouging from Gillette, I started in the early summer with Harry’s. Each one I went two weeks with. I tried Harry’s, Defender, Dollar Shave Club and One Blade.

Harry’s had a nice box, the razor was plastic and felt cheap and the overall shave was 5/10. Too many nicks. The quality of blade was poor.

Defender was the worst of the lot. The worse shave and no matter what I tried, it just didn’t cut it.

One Blade was ok, but again, not as good as the multi-Blades.

Dollar Shave Club. The blade is metal and feels very solid. The blade cart has 5 blades and a single one for hard to reach areas. The kit comes with 5 blades, a pre scrub, a shaving cream and a post shave cream. All for $5. This is a winner. A better shave than my Gillette, a shaving “program” which really works. Count me as a member!

Always wondered how they differed. I’m running out of the refill blades I loved once I realized they were discontinued. I think I’ll try the dollar shave club once my supply runs almost out.

Screw Gillette, they have been ripping men off for too many years. The prices on their blade refills were so high that grocery stores were keeping them under lock and key. Totally ridiculous plus the blades go dull in no time. And if that wasn't maddening enough, Gillette decided it was a "woke" company and started an add campaign to show how toxic men are and that we need to change our ways. So not only was Gillette ripping off their customers, they decided to attack their customers in an ad campaign.

Just buy Gillette 15 count MAch 3 refills for 29.00 thats $1.93 a cartridge, I get the same shave as a "fusion" blade. I go a week or more on a blade. Hell we spend more than that on freaking cables, audio equipment. LP's, gas for our cars, golf fees, eating out. . I tied the Dollar Shave Club Executive blades for 3 months, Harrys for one month and went back to Gillette. At least I know the darn blades will be sharp/. It all depends on your beard and how you treat your razor when your finished. I was told a long time ago, dry the blades and put them in a drawer. I almost went electric, but I could never get a good close shave.

I just use an electric for what face isn't under the beard. It works well if you use the preshave like Afta.

I knew a guy who bought one of those kits with the straight razor and he loved it. I wish I could remember a brand. It had all the lathers and stuff to go with it.

I too only use a electric razor. Too lazy to fiddle with blades.

Before I started taking coumadin for a pulmonary embolism over the summer, I was a big Mach 3 fan (since college actually), although I did buy them in bulk at Sam's Club to save money. Since then I've switched to an electric razor. I totally miss the close shave I got with a safety razor ... although I will concede that it takes about half the time to shave with the electric razor over the regular one. Currently I own a Norelco ($40) and was considering something much more expensive. Does anyone have any experience with the more expensive models? Not interested in shaving in the shower (a lot of the more expensive models can be used for a dry or a wet shave) necessarily, just getting a closer shave.

Got on the Harry’s bandwagon, don’t like the automatic schedule or having to remember to go back into the site to change delivery.

Blades are not good as Gillette but do work, kinda like Audio where you get 90% for considerably less.

Of course I forgot the handle but had a box of cartridges in my travel kit while at RMAF this past weekend so had to shave only holding the blade

Try a Braun foil model shaver. They work better for me than any Norelco rotary bladed shavers. Still not as close as a Gillette two or three blade, but much faster and less pulling altogether. The Braun shavers are not very expensive.

Thankfully I have a light beard so my razor of choice, Schick Hydro 3, last me weeks.
