I have every confidence that this will end well.

Iran grants 70,000 prisoners temporary leave due to virus

Courts across Iran have granted eligible inmates furlough as part of the measures to contain the spread of the virus ... Prisoners with underlying illnesses have been given priority in being granted leave ...

A young lady has the Cv in our city now. The father didn't obey the quarantine. She is said to be doing better, age 20.

If Axpona is canceled just think of just the financial impact of that one event, then it makes more sense the financial panic. You have to wonder if enough people potentially would carry CV to warrant canceling some of these events. I was surprised the large concert event was canceled in Austin. I suppose the responsible thing to do is error on the side of caution though.

It hasn't ended well for 3800 people and their families so far.....:disbelief:

Sorry, I thought my post was clearer than what you took it. I wasn't mocking death, but Iran's decision to let 70,000 prisoners go ...:

I’m hopeful that this will actually end well. I think some of the media might be doing a disservice to everyone.

I agree. While they should report what's happening they need to do it in a more balanced way.

I seem to remember when the news was more about well I guess real news that was more balanced. I'm unsure how many real journalists still exist today.

Respectfully, not sure what you mean that it will actually end well. This is a global pandemic with well over 100,000 people infected and >3000 people have died in the last ~2.5 months. By the time this pandemic is completely over, which could be a year to a year and half from now, its likely millions of people will have become infected and tens of thousands of people may die, given the lethality index is > 3%. For the folks that have, or will suffer from the morbidity and mortality of this pandemic, it hasn't "ended well".

Moreover I've been following the news coverage extensively, and what I see the media is doing is reporting facts. And by definition, facts are not open to dispute. They have also been providing a key platform for public health professional providing key guidance and behaviors for people to maximize containment and mitigation, so, respectfully, I'm struggling understand your comment that the media is doing a disservice to everyone.

Cheers, PC

i think i depends upon your source... if you are getting your news from twitter, facebook or cable news, then sure.

otoh, the new york times, the washington post, PBS, and NPR just to name a few familiar mainstream sources, seem to be doing real journalism with real journalists.

..... and you came by this piece of info from what source?

Seems to me I read somewhere that far more people died from the H1N1 flu virus than have from CV-19 and that the major symptoms reported for a healthy person were no more than a slight fever.
I don't believe that a healthy person with a strong immune system that takes sensible sanitary precautions like washing your hands, has anything to worry about.

I could care less about social media. I’m not on FB, Twit, etc. IMO, they are a waste of time. My friends contact by telephone and email when they desire to speak.

However, I’m speaking of most journalism in general. Most of what we hear now is “commentary” from whatever perspective the news station endorses; i.e. if you haven’t noticed journalism has become highly partisan. And the NYT and WP are just as guilty in this area as are most others. You hear and read what they desire you to hear and read but only from their perspective. IMO there is very little of the “whole truth” in journalism today. Many are just a bunch of liars.

WHO.

COVID-19 has only been extant a few months; far less time that H1N1, which, BTW, came back in the Autumn and Winter of 2009.

In general, I would agree. However, the 34-year old opthamologist who first reported COVID-19 to the Chinese authorities, and who knew what the sensible sanitary precautions were, died from it, so there are no absolutes as far as COVID-19 is concerned. My point to Joe was, its preliminary at this time to assume that "all will turn out well...". We just don't know and won't know for some time...

I listen to Anthony Fauci's reports on news television for the data and guidance on this.

Anthony Fauci is not a liar.

Respectfully, i never said he was. I stated, “Many are just a bunch of liars.” I didn’t state that all were! And Anthony Fauci isn’t even a journalist ...

I went shopping today and bought 2 weeks of food supply, hundreds of antibacterial tissues, soap, nitrile gloves. Already bought the masks back in January. Better safe than sorry.
