Re: Coronavirus Live Updates
I am scared. Both my wife and I feel fine tonight. Regular body temps each. No symptoms otherwise.
I live in a hot spot. Eagle County, CO. I am very spooked and entirely-mentally-exhausted living the -7 days (incubation) without knowledge of my health going forward. The doctor my wife works with (a specialist doctor office) is across the hall from the largest primary care provider in the area. Last week they had several full-gown-gear EMT extractions from that primary care office of affected patients to better facilities. My wife's office has been upholding all the CDPHE regs as they come out for directives and they have limited their patients to emergent-only cases and/or pre/post op visits. This is good.
That's not enough for me.
At home, we've been going insane with the clean hands, clean faucet, clean door knobs, clean light switches, edges of doors, key fobs, everything brought from the grocery, grocery bags, car door handles, steering wheel, gear shift, everything we touch, etc. It is difficult to keep up but we must. I WANT AND NEED FOR MY MIND to know that I am safe in my house and not have the need for both of us to wonder if today is actually day-1-exposure for either of us. Especially given that she has been going to work each day last week and today whereas I work from home remotely.
In the past 10 days, I've gone out as little as needed due to this bug and been very regimented in my hand cleaning and awareness of handling/touching things then cleaning whatever afterwards.
I'm pressing my wife to remain home with me for the full 14+ day recommended duration starting tomorrow. I must break this cycle of not knowing if either of us might be sick and not know it. Its the responsible thing to do. We need our day 1. We will know more about us by day 5. Even more by day 10 and by day 14 we can then deal with the real work going forward.
My plan is to self isolate both she and I for the next 14 days. I don't know how her doctor is going to take the news, but I must.
We will go for walks with the dog, hang at home and do catch up things here and venture out as needed for necessities and when we arrive at our destination, we'll don N95 masks, protective latex gloves, minimizing time in any given store and keeping the 6' rule in check.
Please everyone. Don't fuck around.
This was yesterday and a whole lot has changed since then:

Coronavirus Live Updates
Italy, Spain and France in essential lockdown. From today 14:00 hrs. onwards France has imposed a nationwide curfew. All European borders closed. In Germany group leisure activities forbidden by law, all public gatherings incl. religious ones stopped. Restaurants ordered to close.
Interesting to see how this pens out in the US where there is no comparable national health care system, which shoulders the pandemic everywhere else.

Re: Coronavirus Live Updates
Here is the deal about masks. The virus is transmitted by droplet not bare virus. So basic surgical masks work. However, they do leak around the edges. N95 masks seal better and health care workers are supposed to be Fit tested as the N95's come in 3 different sizes. Fit testing is a 15 minute procedure. They will not work if you have a beard. N95's cannot filter out the bare viral particles, they are too small. They were made for Tuberculosis.
The reason that the public should not be hoarding N95 masks is that health care workers need them. I guarantee that if we run out of masks that I and every other health care worker will not be taking care of you if you are sick with the virus or for suspected virus.
Another reason that the masks are futile is because you need full eye protection with goggles not glasses.
Another thing about masks, if they become contaminated and you touch them, you will get the virus. Same goes for your clothes, shoes, etc..
That is why when we go in to see a patient with a cough, fever or shortness of breath, we wear full body protection. When we leave the room, it all gets taken off and thrown out and then when we go back in the room with the same patient we have to put on all new protection gear.
If you think you have the virus, please go to a drive up testing station and stay out of the clinics and hospitals unless you are having difficulty breathing or think you have pneumonia. There is nothing we can do to treat mild cases of COVID19.My Gear- Mains System-Pass X250 amp, BAT VK-51se preamp, Luxman DA-06 DAC, Magnepan 1.6's, Thorens TD-145 TT, Dual Martin Logan Subs, Vintage Luxman T-110 Tuner, Cables-WW Platinum 7 USB, Cardas Parsec XLR, AQ Columbia DBS 72v XLR, Belden 8402 XLR.

Re: Coronavirus Live Updates
In no way do I believe our military unleashed a deadly virus in china. If they did, then they knew it would spread world wide and kill people in the U.S. including people in their families. This came from bats just as MERS and SARS a few years ago. MERS is still around in the middle east. The chinese keep eating bats and all sorts of animals that carry virus that have the potential to jump species. The country keeps outlawing it and it works for a while until they start eating these animals again. The chinese people need to join the 21st century and stop believing in the power of Rhino tusks, exotic animals and the such.

Re: Coronavirus Live Updates
Yes. According to the Lancet, high MERS-CoV presence was found in Saudi Camels. (1)
Meanwhile scientists are still searching for the source (the pathogen behind the new illness) of COVID-19.
The strongest speculation has been that the virus is somehow linked to a Wuhan market given two thirds of the first batch of people infected had had ties with it. But even this hasn’t been proved yet. And subsequent investigations indicate that the first patient – who started experiencing symptoms as early as 1 December 2019 – had no reported link to the market, or the other patients. (2)

Re: Coronavirus Live Updates
Correct, the virus needs to mutate to infect humans. You need to have a Vector.
In epidemiology, a disease vector is any agent which carries and transmits an infectious pathogen into another living organism;[1][2] most agents regarded as vectors are organisms, such as intermediate parasites or microbes, but it could be an inanimate medium of infection such as dust particles.[3]
However it can be another animal. My Gear- Mains System-Pass X250 amp, BAT VK-51se preamp, Luxman DA-06 DAC, Magnepan 1.6's, Thorens TD-145 TT, Dual Martin Logan Subs, Vintage Luxman T-110 Tuner, Cables-WW Platinum 7 USB, Cardas Parsec XLR, AQ Columbia DBS 72v XLR, Belden 8402 XLR.

It has already Mutated 3 times since China.
Gun and Ammo sales are at an all time high and the lines are longer than the ones for toilet paper.
Lots of people capitalizing on all this misfortune starting with the Hyper Media whose Nielsen Ratings went up and they are now charging more for ad time while they continue around the clock doom and gloom updates. However, they are not emphasizing all of the thousands of people who have already recovered. Why not?-----------------

Re: Coronavirus Live Updates
There is an interesting study from Italy. What if we fell victim to ... panic ? What if the virus is nowhere as deadly as we think it is ?
More than 99% of Italy’s coronavirus fatalities were people who suffered from previous medical conditions,
The Rome-based institute has examined medical records of about 18% of the country’s coronavirus fatalities, finding that just three victims, or 0.8% of the total, had no previous pathology.
The average age of those who’ve died from the virus in Italy is 79.5. As of March 17, 17 people under 50 had died from the disease. All of Italy’s victims under 40 have been males with serious existing medical conditions.

I listened to a report on Sean Hannity show today (like him or not, I have never heard him comment on roomer).
He spoke about the Textile Industry in Wuhan, China. It apparently is connected with the textile industry in Italy. There are apparently record of 1000's of trips by workers in Wuhan to Italy via direct flight from Wuhan.
This could help explain the early and intense spread in Italy.
I will see if I can find the documentation for this.Synology 1019D+ - SGC Sonictransporter I9 w Roon/HQ Player- UltraRendu- PBD Stream IF to Playback Designs MPS5 via fiber optic - ARC 40th Anniversary Pre - ARC 610 T's - Martin Logan CLX's - 4 Martin Logan Depth i Subs - Shunyata Hydra, DIY PCOCC interconnects, speaker cables and power cords with Furutech terminations. That is true, there is big chineese community in Italy. They all went to China for the Chineese new year, which happened to be in the middle of the outbreak, and many came back with the virus. That is how it started in Italy.

Re: Coronavirus Live Updates
There are still healthy people dying of the disease or ending up on a ventilator. There is a 40 year old EM doctor in the ICU and a 60 year old EM doctor in the ICU. Here in MN we have a 38 year old with no risk factors on a ventilator. Yes, more older people are dying. I am scared shitless as I am 61 and have 3 risk factors that increases my risk of dying to 10-15%. I have well controlled hypertension (which according to the chinese is a huge risk factor) well controlled diabetes and asthma. I have a reason to panic but I still see patients with cough, fever and shortness of breath. This virus is the real deal. Most will be fine but if you have risk factors ( and I bet at least a billion people do) then you have a good reason to be scared. We could see the geriatric population be decimated across the globe.
How many people on this forum have hypertension, pulmonary disease, heart disease, kidney or liver disease, diabetes or some sort of neuromuscular or autoimmune disorder? Or at least have family members that do?

Re: Coronavirus Live Updates
It's not up to the FDA, there are no restrictions on the use of these or any already approved medications. However, other than NOT using steroids, it's far from clear what if any treatments directed at the virus itself will work, or work best.

Re: Coronavirus Live Updates
There will not be a viable vaccine for at least a year which pretty much means we will all have already gotten the virus and either fight it off or die before then. There is no way we can be kept at home for over a year.
My company is now involved in whatever Clinical Trials there are or will be. I am very thankful now that I work within the Big Pharma industry because I still have a job and can work from home as directed for at least the next 8 weeks.-----------------

Coronavirus: Wuhan recovery gives rest of world hope, says WHO
GENEVA (AFP) - The World Health Organisation said on Friday (March 20) that the original epicentre in China of the coronavirus outbreak at last reporting no new cases gave hope to the rest of the world battling the pandemic.
The city of Wuhan registered no new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours - for the first time since reporting its first case in December in an outbreak that has gone on to infect more than 250,000 people around the world and kill more than 11,000 people.
"Yesterday, Wuhan reported no new cases for the first time since the outbreak started," WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a virtual news conference in Geneva.
"Wuhan provides hope for the rest of the world that even the most severe situation can be turned around.
"Of course, we must exercise caution; the situation can reverse. But the experience of cities and countries that have pushed back this coronavirus gives hope and courage to the rest of the world."
China as a whole is now reporting only a handful of new infections each day - all of them apparently from overseas visitors - as the crisis has shifted from Asia to Europe, which has now reported more deaths than China.

Ps. The city of Wuhan has been under lock down for 2 months. Movement restrictions have been eased but routes into and out of the city remain blocked for the time being.Borresen Acoustics Loudspeakers, Borresen Model 01 Compact monitor loudspeakers with Ansuz Darkz T2s Supreme resonance control, Audio Video Manufaktur GmbH (AVM) Inspiration amplifier & streamer, Innuos Zen MKII music server, Ansuz Acoustics cables & accessories. I upgraded the power supply on my Gigafoil v4 to a Weiss PSU 102. It’s very nice step up. But with the new model, you’re looking at $2000 before even investing in a SOTA linear power supply.
