Bill Gates on Coronavirus
Bill Gates said yesterday:
"The U.S. is past this opportunity to control (COVID-19) without shutdown," Gates said during a TED Connects program broadcast online. "We did not act fast enough to have an ability to avoid the shutdown."
"It's very tough to say to people, 'Hey keep going to restaurants, go buy new houses, ignore that pile of bodies over in the corner, we want you to keep spending because there's some politician that thinks GDP growth is what counts,'" Gates said. "It's hard to tell people during an epidemic … that they should go about things knowing their activity is spreading this disease."
Tough position we are in.

I recently watched a Ted Talk from 2015 of Gates warning us about pandemics. He must be thinking: 'I told you so'

Re: Bill Gates on Coronavirus
Tough decisions... at some point the morbidity rate of a new contagion has to factor in, as a collapsed economy also has a morbidity rate that cannot be ignored.
Ultimately, on a planet of living things, we are vulnerable to a few random strands of genetic material. Virus are odd things.

On April 26 Bill Gates praised China for how they handled the outbreak.
Do you think this means hiding it or just locking every citizen in their homes for an extended period or just lying about what was going on.

Re: Bill Gates on Coronavirus
It is real easy for rich people to tell poor people they should not go to work and pay their bills.
The rate of Suicide is up close to 900% as per Hotline Polls.
People who need elective surgeries or other treatments are being put at risk.
Nobody getting their teeth cleaned or fixed which will result in further dental issues
The Fed has no ability to keep bailing every one out without a full economy collapse. So just like we stand by and ignore the 640,000 people who die of Heart Disease each year. 1.25 Million people die in car crashes each year, it's time to let this one wash over the land and be gone. We are probably delaying it's exit by hiding and making it last longer.
We cannot just shut down the world for an indefinite time period while all the poor people suffer worse than they were already.
Yeah, it's real easy for celebrities politicians and other wealthy people to tell the rest to stay home, not work, have the Fed go Trillions more in debt, all while they don't have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.
Is it really OK to shut down the USA while all the disgusting markets where this began have been opened up again a month ago?
We cannot stay inside forever, it creates many other health risks as well as negatively effecting our already fragile immune systems.
If you are at risk, do what you need to do to stay safe, for the rest us the healthy people, it's time to get it, overcome it, and move on.-----------------

Re: Bill Gates on Coronavirus
There is a short (26 minute) documentary on COVID 19 on Netflix. It includes interviews with Bill Gates from a year ago. The fact of the matter is that there are vulnerable populations (I'm in Florida and the Governor yesterday in revealing the plans to open the State took that into account and I thought did a good job of going through the facts and at this point yes it could have been handled better initially but that is water under the bridge) which includes the elderly (here in Florida just under 21%) and people with underlying conditions (e.g. asthma, diabetes, cancer patients). When one adds those with the percentage of people with underlying conditions, one is talking about a hefty percentage of the population. For a business to lose most of that, pretty much means many of them won't have a business even if the economy is opened up. Don't know how many caught Frontline (on PBS and may still be online) just over a week ago but it focused on what Washington State vs. Washington DC did initially to react to the crises. They had a Washington State business owner on who remarked he wants to see the economy opened but if it opens too soon and he loses 20% of business (from those vulnerable populations), he won't have a business. It's a very difficult situation for all.

So true Phil. This is difficult for a lot of people, but extremely difficult for some others. I am very hesitant to think this phase 1 approach will even be idealistic when there is NO way to police the action to see if it even works. SO many people before this was even announced were not social distancing, still crowed the beach, the rivers and lakes are like a shopping mall with boaters and people everywhere. I just pray people listen and we do not get a even harder outbreak of this virus.

Re: Bill Gates on Coronavirus
Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and more internet giants and media all heavily invested in pharmaceutical companies.
They have in fact become pharmaceutical giants themselves.
Media now create an enormous fear, and based on this fear, a lockdown is generally accepted "until a vaccine is found".
If some brave doctors dare to bring bare facts and figures that might undermine this created "need" for a vaccine, their business model is attacked.
That is why these videos keep on diisappearing.
The fake news is that this virus causes more harm than a yearly flu epidemic.
Hospitals in Belgium are almost empty now, there are very few new patients and so-called non essential medical services remain closed.
But still the lockdown is maintained...
The first weeks, I was a voluntary candidate to help in the Covid centre in my town (I'm a medical doctor), in case the younger colleagues would no longer be able to deal with all Covid patients.
They never needed me.
I was on the list again for today, but they called earlier this week telling me "it is really not busy at all".
Corona might be the biggest hoax ever.

Re: Bill Gates on Coronavirus
You said -- "The fake news is that this virus causes more harm than a yearly flu epidemic. Corona might be the biggest hoax ever. For what purposes???
Here is the Belgian data on the flu that I was able to find by just googling it. Here is the link -- https://www.sciensano.be/en/node/464
Influenza in Belgium
- 500,000 people on average are affected by influenza-like illness each year in Belgium, i.e. about 2% to 8% of the population.
- A moderate epidemic of influenza affects about 5% of the population (550,000 out of 11 million inhabitants).
- A more serious epidemic of influenza affects about 10% of the population (from 1,100,000 out of 11 million inhabitants).
- On average 1 person in 1000 cases of influenza develops complications requiring hospitalisation.
Doing the calculations for a moderate flu epidemic, approximately 550 people get hospitalized for the flu. Let us assume that 50% of those die -- that would mean about 275 people die from the flu each year. You can double that for a severe flu season.
And here is the latest data from the worldometers.info website about the Covid-19 statistics in Belgium: Total confirmed cases -- 49,906. Total deaths -- 7844. Active cases -- 29,753. Patient is critical care --674.
This is the most comprehensive, up-to-date website for tracking the progress of the Covid pandemic worldwide.
So, we can safely assume that even in the best case scenario, by this winter, Belgium will exceed 10,000 deaths from Covid-19.
Let's see -- 550 deaths from the flu per year versus > 10,000 deaths from Covid-19. Does not sound like a hoax to me!!
I will say that I am happy to know that the US does not have a monopoly on science deniers, data deniers, people who are a slave to conspiracy theories.
I will say that if I was a patient in Belgium, I am not sure I would want you as my physician.
I am also a medical doctor but I prefer to let facts do the talking.

Re: Bill Gates on Coronavirus
Dear friends, let me explain some facts.
On an average, we do have 4000 flu deaths a year in Belgium.
Per capita, this is the same as in other European countries.
In 2018, we had a nasty flu.
You can see the official statistics here, and if you google translate it, you'll see they state there is an underestimation of diagnosing flu as death cause.
We had a surplus of 9000 deaths that season.
https://www.volksgezondheidenzorg.in...ontext/sterfte
In Belgium, we don't have enough tests.
Our government didn't invest in tests like Germany did.
So how do we count?
Every deceased person in a home is now counted as Covid victim, whereas only 4% of them were tested.
Even in hospitals it went that way until recently: if you died coughing, it was Covid.
All other respiratory causes were excluded.
Our neighbouring countries are laughing at us, because we are making a fool of ourselves!
But we're the country of Magritte after all, aren't we?!
In the mean time, I take good care of my patients 24/7, they can always reach me, and so far, luckily I haven't had any patient in hospital so far.
Knock on wood.
Let's see if at the end of the year, we'll have a surplus of deaths compared to the last years.
Is it going to be as bad as 18-19?
I wouldn't hold my breath...Vivid Audio - Burmester - Hegel - Marantz - Oppo - Pioneer 60" - Wireworld

Bill Gates' best-case scenario on the future of the US economy ...
____
On another realistic note ...
* According to the latest expert's predictions ... this Coronavirus could be in the US for three years.
Science journalist Laurie Garrett has been warning about a pandemic like Covid-19 for decades and predicts the coronavirus pandemic could possibly last for three years.
“Each community and each part of the country has to be ready and know, yes, maybe you got things under control right now in May. Maybe in June. But be ready. It's coming back again and again,” Garrett, author of “The Coming Plague,” told CNN’s John Berman in an interview.
Garrett said we should look at places like South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong, which have been able to stem the pandemic.
“These places have figured out this virus will come in waves. It's not going to be a giant tsunami that just sweeps over America all uniform all at once, then retreats, then all comes back all at once across America again. It's going to be more like little brush fires popping up here, there, and everywhere,” she said.~ Bob ~
