Violectric V281 (good for modern pop and rock, but the top end is a little dry) and dCS Bartok, which the latter according to a friend is just awesome with the Phi's. As you already know they can scale with any quality DAC. I didn't check what they cost but the dCS is way up there ...

If you are ordering your Abyss from their site you can pick which cable connector you would like!

Here is a video from the guys at Abyss comparing amplifiers:

The HeadAmps are good equipment (not so sure about the company at this point)... GS-X Mini.

XI Audio (Eleven Audio) is outstanding. The Broadway is $2299.

I love my SimAudio. They had some really nice things to say about it but they deducted a level because of its size and that the optional DAC is not up to current standards. Both of which meant nothing to me. I stumbled on an amazing deal or I probably would have been patient and waited for the HeadAmp GS-X Mini.

Benchmark HPA4 is supposed to be good, but I have always found their gear to be too analytic for me.

Bryston BHA-1 is a great amp and would fit easily in your budget.

The Pass HPA-1 would push your budget as would XI Audio's top model and SimAudio's top model.

Tubes; the Dennis Had unit would be my first choice, but Woo have some good ones also. Here is a good deal on US AudioMart:

Blue Hawaii is an amp for electrostatic headphones, and will not run the Abyss. I use the Violectric V281 via balanced for Focal Utopias. I also use it as pre for a pair of ACA amps to desktop 3.5inch Tekton speakers.
    Amplification : Modwright LS300 - Atma-Sphere "Class D" monoblocks
Digital : MSB Premier DAC+Digital Director, Oppo 203, Sonos Port (W4S mod)
    Analog : Technics SL1200G, Boulder 508
Speakers : Daedalus Audio Muse Studio
    Headphone : BHSE + Voce
