Enough nights the media room commandeered for movie watching and frustration with the shabby SQ of airpods while away from home, I finally took the plunge and picked up a hifiman he1000 stealth while they were on black friday sale. Which really seems like a permanent sale on an old but decent product.

So now on to the usual - picking out a portable dac/amp (waiting on an ifi diablo to get the ball rolling) and trying to untangle the connectivity and cable puzzles (source will be ios devices - iphone/ipad, for now at least. Until Lumin makes a portable streamer haha).

When $ allow I could see finding one of the new enleum's. I had the big brother and loved it.

While waiting on the ifi amp/dac I have them plugged directly into the iphone and they sound pretty good to me. Nothing jaw dropping but several steps up from the bose and airpods wireless.

It's a pretty addictive experience! Just glad to have something good to listen to when I can't sit in front of the 2-channel system.

I know there are much better headphones out there, for a lot more money, and systems dedicated to headphone listening. Hard to imagine how good those get.

This hobby never fails to find a way to suck you back in.

Although I have a headphone amp I really like and 'OK' Focal headphones, I've never really been able to get into headphone listening.

Understandable; I don't feel too differently, it won't become my primary listening. I love my main setup way too much, it's a rare oasis for me (thanks Mike).

But, it seems like it will be a nice fallback option, and the only option to not tolerate muddy. inarticulate-sounding low-fi, when not home.

I enjoy both speaker and headphones. I have my headphone amp hooked up to my main system using Output 2 on the McIntosh preamp. I have been on a headphone kick lately.

For portable I use an Astell & Kern. I have literally hundreds of albums on it ranging from Redbook quality up to DSD256. I got a balanced cable for my Abyss off of it. Works great.

BTW, I personally think the Hi-Fi Man headphones you got a very good!
