Show us your Harbeth stands
I designed these stands and the guys at Core Audio built them out of solid Wenge.

Re: Show us your Harbeth stands
Something you fellas might try; I am using a beeswax impregnated parchment to couple the stands to the speaker. This instead of using metal feet or soft sorbothane like pucks. The thin parchment helps to couple vibration energy from the speaker - draining it into the stands. Try it if you have wooden stands.

Re: Show us your Harbeth stands
Sounds interesting. I use the classic blue tac on the 3PSRs. But of course that creates more of a spot contact.
Beautiful speakers btw.

Re: Show us your Harbeth stands
First, I tried a Berning ZOTL-40 amplifier. Not really a good match. They sound wooly in the bass and soft on transients.
Then, since I have them, I put the Constellation Centaur II in. A bit of a mismatch price wise and far more power than is required. However, this is a great match for the speaker. Beautifully balanced, punchy and articulate. Soundstaging is brilliant with great depth. Two of the most difficult to accurately portray are the human voice and piano. Both are very realistic with this combination.
I have a Devialet which will very likely be a good match but haven’t put it in because the Constellation-Beth combination is so captivating.
Source equipment is a Constellation Virgo preamp and the Lampizator GG or TotalDAC.

Re: Show us your Harbeth stands
Caelin, I had to Google Wenge since I know squat about wood. Did you use that wood for it’s appearance, or it’s sonic qualities. Or both. The stands do look great and match the speakers.

Re: Show us your Harbeth stands
Weill mostly it matches the speaker finish. You know, many exotic woods have good acoustic properties. Wenge makes a good wood for stands because it has a high porosity that tends to dampen vibration. I find wood to sound more natural than filled metal stands. But, I have nothing against things like Sound anchors, I use them with the Maggie’s. Really the Beth is a traditional, almost retro, look that I like. It just appeals to my aesthetic sense to put them on wooden stands. If you read some of Shaw’s interviews on the Harbeth design - they intentionally don’t overdampen or use thick cabinet walls. People that have tried to improve these speakers by reinforcing the walls or using thicker cabinets usually end up screwing up the finely balanced sound qualities. So, it is in that design spirit that I intentionally designed an open frame for the stands so as to avoid reflections from the speaker bottom and the stand under it. And I selected a material that would couple well with the speakers wooden cabinet without overdampenimg it. Nor did I want a stand that had its own sound quality that would be incongruent with the speakers natural sound qualities.

Re: Show us your Harbeth stands
Thanks. As I said, I know squat about wood. I bought my rack based on Mapleshade’s opinion maple is excellent for absorbing vibrations, especially compared to rigid materials such as marble, steel, glass, etc. Throw in the tidbit that the string instrument makers preferred maple sold me. LOL
Good job. I love the ‘old school’ appearance of Harbeth speakers.Bud

Re: Show us your Harbeth stands
Hi Caelin,
Did the Harbeth 40.2 replace the Devore 096s? If so, how would you compare the sound?
Also, which model of TotalDac do you have?
Thanks,
Anshul

altho these are for the sh5plus i think if i turn them sideways they may accommodate a m40.2 if one could afford and fit it in the space which is dubious

Re: Show us your Harbeth stands
Should someone that needs a bit of leveling on one side choose a different stand over the Ton Trager? They do not have spikes or a way to level, correct?
