    Thanks in advance.
Thank you Paul. 'm using a modded Cayin CDT-17A CD player with Melody H2A (the unit was specially modded to use NOS RCA2A3 but I never tried) running on JJ 2A3-40w output tubes.
I also use a Unison Research Unico (80w). It can drive the 40.1 very well too.

Thank you Jerome. I appreciate your tips on the decoupling for 40.1. I would like to give it a try one day! Mid to low bass is the challenge in my listening room.

I use Herbies Big Fat Dots between my M40.1s and Skylan stands. Definitely helped. I have the axis crossing in front of my listening position. It makes a difference give the wide baffle of the speaker.

Do you mind elaborate the improvement from using the Big Fat Dots ?

Increase in clarity across the board at all frequencies. Very affordable method to couple the speaker to the stand. I placed the fat dots on top of the opening used to tension the top and bottom mdf plates of the Skylan stands.

Got the big fat dots today and tried them on my 40.1s. These fat dots, contrary to their name, really did help loose some fat on the 40.1s' bass, excellent value for the money.
Thanks Dan for the recommendation !

I'm very glad you love them! Not only they look gorgeous, their open plinth design let the 40.1s breath very well and help them sound their best!

Thanks Dan. Currently I'm using 5 dots per speaker, 3 at the front and 2 at the back. Have you found best configuration on your system ?

I am using Skylan stands. The stands have four legs that are sandwiched by a top and bottom mdf platform. I have filled the legs with kitty litter. I have placed the dots on the top of the opening above each leg that allow access to tension the top and bottom through the kitty litter filled leg. If your stands have some form if mass damping try to position the dots over the points of damping. Good luck.

Does anyone tried the 40.1 (or 40.2 for that matter) with Gryphon amplification that can share some thoughts?
I'm intrigued by these speakers, although I do feel that I won't have the room to accommodate them (around 25m2). Listening position at about 2 mts...

Re: I finally got to hear 40.1's today ....

I've never heard Gryphon gear but I am sure it's amazing. I've tried a Hegel H30 on my 40.1 and it was outstanding using my CJ GAT as a preamp. My Pass XA60.5 are wonderful too. Any reasonably powered amps will work well. I think the upcoming 40.2 will be easier to drive.

On the tube side, my CJ ART monos were outstanding on my 40.1.

    Gryphon amps should be outstanding.

    Hello,

25m2 is enough for the big Harbeths.
I never heard Gryphon amps with them.
What I can say is that the 40.1 do love power, but imho they do not appreciate to be fed with LOTS of power.
In my 40m2 room, the Shindo CCQs ( 2 x70W of tubes in class A ) are indeed too powerful for them. The bass is too strong for my room. But at low level, they are wonderful. They fill the room with magic presence and weight.
Similarly, my Nagra MSA amp ( 2 x60W of MOS FET transistors, AB class) is ideal at normal and high volume. It does not feed the boomer as the Shindos. Less weight and presence at low volume though.
At normal volume, the McIntosh MC225 ( 2 x 30 W ! ) is fabulous. But won't reach very high volume without clipping and lacks presence at low volume.
With 2 x MSA in mono ( 120 W ) , you get too much power : the sound becomes too heavy in the bass ( exactly like the big Shindos) and lacks the finesse of a single amp in stereo.
Conclusion : try before buying. The 40 are very difficult to amplify correctly. They need power. But not too much !!

    Yee,

You are always invited to listen. You'll have to settle for my Strads until I decide to buy the 40.2's. I think you will love my Strads, I have some new toys to play through them.

I'm sure your Strads are excellent, I am just too curious to find out what happen to 40.1/2 when you feed them with more powers. Will let you know if I happen to come around your neighborhood, I can bring some beers :p

Maybe I could bring an ARTsa around to you sometime. We will have to figure something out. You treated my friend and I very well and I really appreciated you and your wife's hospitality. Your system sounds awesome. I am sure you've made some updates since we visited.

That will be awesome Joe ! You are always welcomed to stop by. Just feel free to give me a heads up if you do.
My system didn't change other than added some modified isolation feet between the stand/speaker and treated the room corners with some GIK bass traps.
