Harbeth 40.2 Review
Hey guys, my old speakers are dying and the repair guys says that at this point I might be better off investing in new pair vs wasting any more money trying to get these ones fixed. I've already done a bunch of research and I'm leaning towards the Harbeth 40.2 anniversary edition. Everything I've be en reading makes them sound like they are virtually flawless. Thoughts?

Nothing is flawless, but I’m sure these are fun as heck in the right room with appropriate gear. I’d easily take a pair. Hopefully after the summer.

Re: Harbeth 40.2 Review
I agree... nothing is flawless but they way people have been describing the Harbeth 40.2's they appear to be flawless. My room is 12 ft by 11 ft and I listen at moderate levels but like to crank things up every so often... hence why I'm looking at the 40.2s. Plust the anniversary finish is amazing. I don't listen to a wide range of music genres, mostly jazz and classical. If they can cover more genres great... but it's not a deal breaker. I will need to audition them soon, just dragging my feet.
Joeinid... if you get yours before mine please let me know how they worked out.

Re: Harbeth 40.2 Review
I have a set and love them. I don't really 'love' too many speakers. But they are definitely not perfect in any sense. So all the questions that have been asked of you are relevant. What we are trying to determine is what are your personal preferences and aversions. More than anything this will determine if the Beth is a good match for you.
This would be very helpful: What speaker do you have now? What speakers have you had in the past that you really liked. What speakers have you heard that you absolutely can't stand to be in the room with?Last edited by CGabriel; April 17, 2018 at 11:22 PM. Reason: spelling

Re: Harbeth 40.2 Review
You also might want to consider your setup. I'm reading that Harbeths can be sensitive to a lot of factors (please correct me if I'm wrong): underamped tube amplifiers or too little power... to name a few. What are you using (or will be using if you're upgrading)?

Re: Harbeth 40.2 Review
The Harbeth 40.2 is goingto be a huge price jump and with your space you might want to look into a smaller speaker. If you're dead set on thatmodel, you can try to find a used pair... it might require sometime and patience. How soon do you need to replace the speakers? Are youcompletely speakerless or do you havea backup set to use in the intrum? You are looking inthe right brand category with your listening preferences though. Good luck on How soon do you need to replace the speakers? Are you completely speakerless or do you havea backup set to use in the interim?

Re: Harbeth 40.2 Review
Harbeths are pretty well known for their rich sound and outstandingmidrange. These definitely come with a larger price tag ($20K I believe) but it may be worth it.I think Harbeth stepped up thebass in the 40.2 vs their smaller counterparts. Not only that but the limited edition walnut looks beautiful. Your room might be alittle small for the 40s though, Harbeths tend to needroom to breathe or bass can be a nuisance. Are you set on that model or would you drop down in size... it couldsave you some cash too (or you can upgrade something else with the extra cash).
