Harbeth 30.1 are outstanding !!!!

Set up temporarily until I decide on the proper stands. Smaller than I expected but oh so big in sound. Looks are stunning. These really are amazing speakers. Superb vocals. MORE than enough detail, if not too much

Do I miss my TADs, no way!

Thank you Brian. Right now the C2300 and MC275VI are on them. When I get home from work tonight, the Naim Supernait2 with HiCap-DR will go on. At some point, my CJ gear will be hooked up. Right now the McIntosh combo is wonderful.

Thanks Mike,

The 40.1 will be the same beautiful color. I am so excited. If the 30.1 are any indication, the 40.1 will be outstandingly superb.

A popular stand choice for the Harbeth's are the Skylan stands or if you prefer the more industrial look Sound Anchors.

I bought the Skylan for the 40.1. I think I would have preferred the Sound Anchors for both of them but a friend keeps threatening to buy my 30.1's. Not sure if he will or not. I believe the 40.1 will be just perfect.

Hi Nick,

I could not decide what I wanted 30.1 or 40.1. First I put my order for the 40.1 and thought about it for a day or so and thought what the heck, throw in the 30.1's too. I had a feeling the 40.1's would take longer, but did not realize it would take this long. I am glad the 30.1's showed up first. Besides, a friend is thinking about my 30.1's and even if he does not take them, I don't care, I love them.

As I said already, Jonathan Halpern says that Shindo is horrible with Harbeth. To each one their opinion.
I do love my CCQs with the Harbeths : I find the result truly magical BUT, the Harbeths were more difficult to set up with them than with my other amps. First I got too much bass. I also played with the gain of the amps. Less gain on the power amps and the volume knob on my preamp at 11 or 12 surprisingly sounded much better than 9 oclock on the preamp and more gain on the amps.
I found the perfect set up just a few days ago.

My opinion is that the standard CC's that Art Dudley used in his review might be more than enough and will demand less care in set up than the bigger CCQs but I really do not know since Alan Shaw himself says that the 40.1 starve for minimum 50W, with 100W being better...
The ideal would be to try. But I doubt that any Shindo dealer will let you try the amps at home. According to Jonathan, they won't even sell you any Shindo amp knowing that you own Harbeth speakers !
The only way is to come to my home buddy !

You are very lucky to have a room like that. I remember Serge was selling a pair of Tannoy a while ago. I wanted them in the worst way but could not make it happen. If I had the room, Tannoy would be the ones. Enjoy.

Congrats Joe. For advice give Walter Swanbon a call at Fidelis as is the US importer for Harbeth. He knows them better than anyone and will know what pairs up the best with them. Enjoy!

If I remember correctly Serge was selling his Canterbury ....No.... Our Joe can't settle with second best. Once your basement is finished go with the West and You won't look for anymore speakers hehe

Update:

I just switched to the Naim Supernait 2 with the HiCap-dr and it gives the C2300/MC275 a run for the money. I don't want to admit it right now, but I think it might be better. Damn!

It's going to be tough call. Some songs are better with tubes, some are better all SS.

I was talking about that with a friend. I think the Job will be awesome. The Harbeth may not be efficient but are easy to drive.

I think if the JOB can push the 82db Treos' to ear shattering levels, the Harbeth's might be a mild test. I would think the MC-275 would be too. Might want to try putting the GAT in front of the JOB and the MC-275 and see what you hear. The problem with the JOB will be the GAT's high 25db gain. Too me either one of those amps with the Red Wine Isabella preamp might be worth a listen.

I really like the C2300 or C500T in front of the Job 225 because I can reduce the input gain by 6 dB. It's very easy in the setup on the preamps. This puts me in a better volume range. The GAT does sound amazing in front of the Job but the gain in VERY high.

Have you ever tried the GAT with the MC-275's? I would think it would be still pushing it a bit since the 275's input sensitivity is only 1.25v, but it might work with the GAT's high gain.

Hi Jack,

Not with the MC275 yet but I did with the MC601's and it's superb. It brings the soundstage a little more forward and layered with a touch more 3D. McIntosh amps are outstanding and benefit from superb preamps.
